The Casino Came First
Robinhood launched a chain on July 1 to put stocks onchain. Two months later it posted $4M in daily revenue, roughly 50x what Solana earned the same day, and a record $3.7B in 24-hour DEX volume. Very little of it came from stocks. It came from Pons, a memecoin launchpad that out-earned Pump.fun, and from the 25,000 tokens it minted in a single day.
The easy read is that memes won again. The better read is what happened next. Traders started pairing those memes against tokenized stocks in the same pools, and the tokenized stocks, which had spent two years waiting for volume, suddenly had it. Over $3B of stock token volume, bootstrapped by assets that were never meant to be serious.
That reverses the story crypto has told itself. Serious assets were supposed to bring the liquidity. Instead they borrowed it.
Everyone drew the adoption path in the same direction: TradFi users arrive, tokenized stocks give them a reason to stay, liquidity follows. Robinhood ran it backwards. Speculation arrived first, liquidity pooled around it, and tokenized stocks were simply what that liquidity was sitting next to. If the order holds, tokenized stocks may not need TradFi users first. They may need crypto-native speculation first, and a venue that never separated the two. The wall between them was never about the assets. It was a product decision all along.

1) DTCC ran its first production trades of tokenized US securities — involving BlackRock, JPMorgan and Goldman.
2) The UK Treasury put 54 firms on a tokenization taskforce.
Neither came from a crypto company.
