This was Russell Brand in high school, so yes I partly agree with you, he was a dork who suddenly found himself young and famous in the UK, with the ability to get unlimited women. He also clearly had some issues, he himself claims he was molested by 2 men as a child, one being his family doctor which occurred over several years. Later he channeled his troubles into various pursuits which included substance addictions, but after getting sober it's obvious that his drug of choice became sex and attention
I actually know quite a bit about Brand, because I was a fan in his early days before he was ever known in the US, so this is a quick write up to explain how I see his trajectory and current situation
As with many British celebrities, they often did their best work in the local british stand up and tv circuit, before they crossed the pond and succumbed to Hollywood commercialization, for example Ricky Gervais, Sacha Baron Cohen, John Cleese, Billy Connolly and many others, and Russell Brand was the same, they all lost something when they went to Hollywood since their humor was finely tuned to the quite competitive British market, and their style needed to be modified for the mass international market. Brand has not been anywhere near as funny since about 2009 imo, and I stopped paying much attention to him around then
It was obvious from his early career though that Brand had massive goals. He worshipped and wanted to emulate hall of fame comedy legends like Bill Hicks, Richard Pryor, Billy Connolly and even guy like Morrissey who he befriended. Whatever his motives (which i'm sure were mixed, as with anyone), he really wanted to be a legendary cult like artist and figure
When he got to the USA, he realized he was basically being put into this box as the quirky British hippy rocker guy, he was doing superficial talk show appearances and putting out trash like “Get him to the Greek”. He had a ticket to money and stardom but he was very unfulfilled by it all and I think he disliked his own work. He wanted to be the subversive artist but ended up putting out radio pop, and I think this is what drove him to ditch Hollywood and foray into political commentary
His mistake was thinking he could operate as some independent political influencer guy when he had the kind of sexual past that he had. And what kind of sexual past was that? Well he really was one of the most sexually promiscuous men ever, and not only that, he was a charismatic and highly competent at seducing women
Neil Strauss the author of the "the Game" hung out with him and called him "the best natural he'd ever seen", that is coming from a guy who had met many famous people and who had researched, lived and breathed pickup and seduction for a decade. Brand was basically constantly pulling and sleeping with women any chance he could. In his book he claimed that the most women he'd ever slept with in a single day was 9, after a show in Ireland, there are many accounts which would suggest that he probably was not exaggerating
He was completely out of control, forward, and while i'm sure the vast majority of that was consensual, it's also likely that he was overly confident and felt invincible and crossed lines for some women in some cases. What some women will love and see as a sexually dominant turn-on, another can see as inappropriate or sleazy, especially if she initially feels desired and charmed, and then afterwards feels dumped and used
There's no man who could push the kind of volume he was pushing, living that kind of fast sex lifestyle without pissing off at least a few women, there's just no way you are going to be calibrated enough to each person. Overall, they were never going to have much trouble finding enough dirt on him to bring a case to court
Saying that, it's also apparent that this was all widely known in the British entertainment industry since the 2010's at least, so it's also clear that there were likely alterior motives for suddenly bringing a documentary out about him in 2023 (which was basically a casting call encouraging women to come forward)
The British establishment is ridiculously corrupt, arguably even moreso than the US. The US has the Deep state, well the UK has the Abyss state, that deep historic empire-tier corruption. Whether Brand was really doing anything valuable politically or not is besides the point, he had obviously made some enemies, he was an easy target because he had no powerful allies in his corner to bat for him
A very sad rise and fall situation, especially considering he has a few young kids, but goes to show that there's a reason most celebrities who find mainstream success just shutup, toe the line, focus on their work and take the bag, especially those who know full well there is dirt that can be used against them. That is the only rational thing to do, every position in society comes with it's own possibilities and limitations
Russel Brands biggest crime in my opinion is being an egotistical womanizer who like to talk up his conquests. Let’s face it. He’s no Brad Pitt. He probably struggled to pull a woman prior to his fame. I have no doubt he completely fabricated the number of women he bedded purely for shock factor.
It’s clear that the women that threw themselves on Russ after he acquired his fame and fortune are now looking to profit off their roll in the hay with him. I would say the old MeToo movement has evolved into the MeThree movement!
Not all women are victims and not all women are honest. Why do we always automatically believe the woman! I am a woman and even I believe the majority of women are just purely opportunists out to make a quick buck!
