Started as little labels and dirt. Now it’s dinner. Thyme, basil, oregano, parsley, sage, and chives under a kitchen light. No backyard required. In Texas heat, this is how you keep fresh herbs going when the patio tries to cook everything. The ones that took off first were basil and chives. Rosemary was slower. That’s normal. Seeds don’t all sprint. I snip what I need and leave the rest. A garden this small still changes the meal. Pasta, eggs, chicken all taste like you meant it. Some games you remember playing. Zelda, I remember falling in love with before I ever touched the controller. I was going through my old games and found The Legend of Zelda, and suddenly I was right back at one of my earliest gaming memories. We were at my future brother-in-law’s parents’ house for one of his nephew’s birthday get-togethers. He pulled out that unmistakable gold cartridge, slid it into the NES, and every kid in the room gathered around the TV. We just sat there in awe, waiting to see what was hiding inside that little gold cartridge. I wouldn’t actually get to play Zelda myself until years later, but I was already hooked. I loved watching my brother-in-law search for hidden secrets, figure out where everything was, collect the items he needed and slowly uncover this enormous adventure. The exploration, the secrets, the story… there was just something magical about it. And even now, going back to the original is like testing a piece of childhood memory: Do I still remember where that secret is? Which item do I need next? Can I still find my way without looking anything up? That little gold cartridge started a lifelong love of Zelda for me. Decades later, the graphics may be simple… but the feeling of adventure it gave us never was. I’ll forever be a Zelda fan. Some childhood memories really are worth their weight in gold.

You were never the ice. You were the thing the ice was built to contain. And the fire that finally reached you did not come to save you. It came to remind you that you were always the one who could walk out.
