#BreakingNews A spokesman for Sen. Patty Murray’s campaign confirmed to the Lynnwood Times that she plans to seek re-election in 2028.
💬 “Senator Murray has said she plans to run in 2028 and that remains the case,” the spokesman wrote.
@PattyMurray, a Democrat, has represented Washington in the U.S. Senate since January 3, 1993, when she became the state’s first female senator. Now in her sixth term, she is the longest-serving woman in Senate history and the first woman to serve as president pro tempore, a post she held from 2023 to 2025. She is vice chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee.
Her record includes co-authoring the Violence Against Women Act of 1994; chairing the Veterans’ Affairs, Budget, and Health, Education, Labor and Pensions committees; and negotiating the 2013 bipartisan budget deal with then-Rep. Paul Ryan. She has also backed the Affordable Care Act, the No Surprises Act banning surprise medical bills, and major climate and infrastructure investments directed to Washington.
Murray’s platform centers on working families: lowering health-care and prescription costs, protecting reproductive rights, expanding child care and paid leave, supporting veterans, and advancing clean energy and education funding for the state.
Rumors have circulated that Gov. Bob Ferguson is considering a run for Murray’s seat. The Lynnwood Times emailed his office seeking comment on those reports and has not received a response.
