In stationary queues of traffic drivers should apply the parking brake, once the following traffic has stopped take their foot off the footbrake to deactivate the vehicle brake lights. This will minimise glare to road users behind until traffic moves again. @deptinfra @daera_ni

The Department for Transport (DfT), in collaboration with the Department for Infrastructure (DfI), is seeking views on proposed updates to the Safety at Street Works and Road Works: A Code of Practice. The Code sets out the standards for how street and road works should be signed, lit, and guarded to help protect everyone who encounters these works. This consultation seeks views on proposed updates to ensure the Code remains clear, practical, and effective for those responsible for and affected by street and road works. We welcome views from: ∙ Members of the public ∙ Disability groups ∙ Road users ∙ Local authorities ∙ Utilities ∙ Contractors ∙ Others involved in street and road works The consultation closes at 11:59pm on 14 December 2026. Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has announced a further 34 schools will have part-time 20mph speed limit schemes installed. This is the fourth tranche of schools to benefit from this important road safety initiative, with 307 schools across the north benefitting from the scheme since 2020/21.
