Thank you, Minister @FranckenTheo, for the invitation to speak at the Royal Military Academy. Given Belgium’s important role in Europe and NATO I look forward to our meeting to discuss the security threat from the Islamic Republic to Europe, Ukraine and the Middle East region. From terrorism on European soil, including the recent RAF Fairford Incident, to cybersecurity threats, providing drones to Russia in Ukraine, long-range ballistic missiles, and the nuclear weapons program, the Islamic Republic remains a serious state security threat to Europe and beyond. I will address these critical security challenges in my speech at the Academy.

Peyman Ghadiri, a 45-year-old father, an engineer, and supporter of orphans, was targeted when agents of the Islamic Republic raided his home in Qarchak, Tehran Province, on January 9, 2026. They shot him in the head at point-blank range and took his child hostage to force the family into silence. Peyman Ghadiri remained in a coma for nine months before tragically passing away on October 14, 2026. Another dark chapter in the atrocities committed by the anti-Iran regime. Peyman Ghadiri’s name will never be forgotten. Light will triumph over darkness, and justice will prevail.

It is great to see Iran Khodro and Saipa finally sanctioned. I have advocated for this for years. Great decision by Secretary Bessent. However, at this point, it is not enough. First, all other major Iranian automakers and auto-parts producers should also be sanctioned. Second, given the existing sectoral sanctions on Iran’s automotive industry, and years of egregious violations by Chinese automakers, the United States should now go after the Chinese firms that have continued doing business with Iran’s auto sector. home.treasury.gov/news/press…
