The PAL Story: The Soul of Detroit. A look at the people, purpose, and impact behind Detroit PAL.

The Little Lions are officially back! This weekend, our Little Lions Flag Football League presented by the @Lions kicked off another season, and one day later, we watched the Detroit Lions take the field and earn their first win of the season. For more than 55 years, Detroit PAL has used sports as a vehicle to help Detroit youth find their greatness. Football is part of that legacy. That’s why partnerships like ours with the Detroit Lions Foundation are so important. Together, we’re creating access and opportunities for the next generation of Detroit kids while strengthening a football pipeline that has produced PAL alumni who have gone on to compete at the college and NFL levels. That’s the power of PAL. That’s the power of partnership.

25 years later, we remember. We honor the lives lost, the families forever changed, and the first responders whose courage defined a nation. September 11, 2001. We will never forget. 🇺🇸

Detroit has a rich baseball history. At Detroit PAL, our kids are writing the next chapter.

Recently, Detroit PAL alum @dantemoore05 came back to his hometown of Detroit during his offseason to host his Girls Flag Football Symposium for PAL girls. Girls flag football is one of the fastest-growing sports in the country, creating new opportunities for young female athletes to see a future for themselves in football. For Dante, it was an opportunity to give back to the community that helped shape him. Girls flag football participation at the high school level has grown more than 550% since 2021-22, jumping from 15,716 athletes to 102,360 in 2025-26. In the last year alone, participation increased another 48.7%, according to the NFHS. Detroit’s girls are ready. 🏈

Congratulations to the Detroit Eagles on capturing the 10U Rec Baseball Championship! Both the Eagles and Yankees put on a championship-worthy performance and gave us a game to remember.

Pen PAL Program: Reps & Role Models 🏐💫 In collaboration with @DetroitPAL and @EMUVolleyball, we were proud to host another Pen PAL Program clinic in Detroit, continuing an initiative designed to connect young athletes with collegiate role models. This experience gave Detroit PAL athletes the chance to train alongside EMU student-athletes while building real relationships with role models who show what’s possible both on and off the court. It’s an initiative that goes beyond volleyball, creating confidence, connection, and a lasting sense of what the future can hold. Grateful to Detroit PAL and EMU Volleyball for continuing to make this work possible.

Our Roblox-based program continues to create real impact across the community. Roblox is an interactive platform where users can design their own games, build virtual worlds, and develop real coding and game development skills. It’s a powerful entry point into STEAM, blending creativity, technology, and problem-solving in a way that truly connects with today’s youth. Together with @accelerate4kids, we’re creating opportunities for young people to explore new pathways and develop real skills on the screen. Even more special, this program is being led by Kira Borum, a former PAL kid who is now pouring back into the next generation. A full-circle moment and a powerful reflection of what this work is all about.

Corporal Norwood continues to show what it means to serve beyond the badge. Through his passion for hockey and commitment to Detroit PAL, he’s growing the game and guiding the next generation every step of the way. With support from the @urbanhockeyfnd through our club system, and the @NHLPA and @BIGGBYCOFFEE powering our Skate Hockey Program, that impact continues to grow. 🏒

Every year after our GREAT Skate Hockey Program, we bring our kids and their families together at Detroit PAL for a banquet to celebrate all they accomplished throughout the season, all under the leadership of the police officers who coach and mentor them. 🏀 HOOPIN’ WITH COPS 🏀 Hoopin' with Cops is a FREE Detroit youth recreational basketball league in partnership with Detroit Police Department and Detroit Parks & Recreation, that fosters trust between law enforcement and male youth ages 11-17 through mentorship and basketball.
