Wilyer Abreu is back in the lineup. No Caleb Durbin. Erik Miller will serve as the opener.
Sogard 2B, Rafaela CF, Abreu DH, Contreras 1B, Monasterio SS, Seigler 3B, Duran LF, White RF, Rogers C, Miller P
Red Sox have signed John Brebbia to a minor-league deal per sources. Originally from Sharon, MA. The 36-yr old righty had a 1.62 in 16.2 innings w/ AAA Albuquerque. Contending teams can’t have enough depth.
Updated MLB starting pitching chart thru 2032. With health, you have a rotation+ next year and a solid base for 2028-2030.
But with recent trades, pressure will be on to generate more young, cost-controlled options to provide depth in the future.
Updated MLB RP chart thru 2032. The entire 2026 pen is under contract for next season if Chapman passes his winter physical.
Pens are volatile, but you have to like the start to the next 2 years before any additional moves are made.
Plus, healthy SP depth slides in here too.
More trade deadline thoughts:
-Expect to see John Holobetz and or Blake Wehunt this year since they did not address SP, those innings constraints on their starters are real
-Expect to see more of Gamboa and Rivera as well
-Don't expect much out of the injured starters
More thoughts on the fallout from the trade deadline:
-My guess is Jovani Moran is optioned today to make way for Erik Miller
-I believe Jamai Jones or Romy Gonzalez will go to add Eli White, Jones is out of options
-It will be interesting to see how they handle SS moving forward
More thoughts on this trade deadline:
-Great work by Breslow to show urgency and willingness to improve the team
-Moving Mayer now was the right move despite what some prospect experts say
-They gave up a lot of prospect capital
-They really believe in this team
Red Sox at the deadline:
IN: Adley Rutschman, Curtis Mead, Erik Miller, Eli White, Carlos Gutierrez
OUT: Connelly Early, Marcelo Mayer, Carlos Narvaez, Anthony Eyanson, Kyson Witherspoon, Enddy Azocar, Tyler Uberstine
Erik Miller. Really good lefty. Ridiculous savant page. 3.5 years of control. Completes a Sox pen which was already the best in the games.
But we’re really punting on Marcelo after 114 games. And you gotta option one of Weissert or Bello unless they trade Watson or something.
With Craig Breslow giving up 3 of the Red Sox top 5 prospects, he clearly thinks Rutschman is the missing piece that can take them to the next level. If he stays healthy, he’s a huge upgrade on what they’ve had catcher for years, but it was a steep price to pay. Fascinating deal.
