David Wright says he would practice on Thanksgiving and Christmas because he believed everyone else was taking those days off and he was always looking for any advantage he could get
“I remember making makeshift tees with my dad in the backyard, with a PVC pipe, and fishnet, tying it between two trees, and just sitting out there.”
“And the sick mindset that I had, I call it a sick mindset, because I thought that every minute that I’d be out there hitting off the tee, I’d be the only person in the world doing that at that time.”
“And for that 10 or 15 minutes or 30 minutes, I was getting better than all the kids that I was going to play with and against.”
“And it was the same mindset that I had when I got into the minor leagues and the big leagues. I always tried to do something baseball-related on Thanksgiving and Christmas because, in my head, I was the only one in the world doing it at that time.”
“And in that split second, I was getting better than everybody else.”
