Routine overwork, including excess of 40 hours a week, isn't just about being a bit tired. It causes cancer, heart disease, stroke alongside mental ill health and a whole host of other ills. The idea people should trade health security for financial security is stupidity
We all know 40 minimum wage hours isn't enough to sustain a very good standard of life. It never has been. Which is why you're supposed to make it enough by working more or earning more. Add that horrible warehouse job to your weekends for 6-8 months. Hustle.

Hey so "normal" is a societal construct that comes out of the eugenics era. You can track the concept back to men like Adolphe Quetelet, who tries to measure "the average" physiological traita of men and women. And then its coopted by eugenicists like Francis Galton. 1/5

It's 6 months cheap labour, no job
The government knows these young people are too sick and disabled to work, they want to force them into low-paying jobs that will make them even worse

This is an appalling attack on the workers we all depend on every day by councillors and senior officials. Both the SNP Glasgow City Council and the Scottish government are both apparently committed to ‘fair work’ but this massive fire and rehire couldn’t seem further from it.
Around 24,000 Glasgow City Council workers face being sacked after long-running equal pay talks collapsed.

How can we stop the absolute torrent of lies and misinformation on benefits being peddled by MPs from the Tory Party, the Far Right parties and even from some Labour MPs and Ministers? It feels like a constant uphill battle, with their lies reinforced by lazy and uncurious media.

Illness, disability & serious injury are not lifestyle choices. People can lose their health, mobility or independence overnight. Lumping millions of people together as ‘handout’ recipients while praising ‘hard-working taxpayers’ is a disgraceful way to talk about disabled people
The term ‘disability’ is in danger of losing all meaning. Spending £45 billion a year on sickness benefits is more than the entire Home Office budget, at a time when we are borrowing just to pay the interest on our debt. That is totally unsustainable. Labour is creating a two-tier economy: one where hard-working taxpayers get up early and go to work, only to pay for another that relies on handouts. Do not doubt that Kemi and I have the backbone to make the tough decisions needed to restore our nation’s finances.

All this moaning about PIP as if disabled people are rolling in cash. Price a specialist wheelchair, seating, pressure cushion, splints, boots, adaptations & transport. Many families fundraise or rely on charities for essentials. That’s the “high life” you’re sneering at. 🪡

This has been my argument with ESA/UC for years. And the counterargument has been, well at least you would still have your DLA/PIP. Means testing that as well would make a currently bad situation even worse.
Imagine being disabled and unable to claim PIP because your partner earns “too much”, even though you cannot access or control that money. Means-testing PIP could leave disabled women financially dependent on partners and make it even harder to escape coercive control, financial abuse or a relationship that has broken down. Household income does not guarantee personal financial security. PIP recognises the extra costs and barriers caused by disability. It belongs to the disabled person and must remain individual and non-means-tested. #PIP #DisabilityBenefits #DomesticAbuse #FinancialAbuse #CoerciveControl

The term "disability" doesnt equate to being in receipt of benefits. Its a defined term; Equality Act 2010, a disability is a physical or mental condition that has a large and lasting negative effect on your ability to do normal daily activities. This ⬇️ is duplicitous framing

Telling disabled people to prioritize meaningless jobs over their health is cruel. Expecting someone to sacrifice their health just to prove they’re productive is not support, it’s dehumanizing.

Disabled people are sick of being looked at as £ signs. We are human beings. The value of human life should not be tied to productivity. Here’s reality: We have an ageing population and the world was hit by a mass disabling event (Covid). Stop punching down on disabled people.
Total insanity. Britain is on a crash course to bankruptcy. And we have a government with no concept of spending restraint which thinks taxing everything is the answer. A calamity.
