The reality is that China and the US have a tremendous number of interdependencies, where the US is depending on China for many things, and China uses many things from the US as well.
Sometimes people in the US have asked me, what about separating all trade from China?
My analogy to that is that’s like if you’ve got conjoined twins that almost share one body, and you want to cut that. It’s a very dangerous thing.
There’s millions of supply-chain dependencies between China, the US, and the rest of the world.
I hope for the future that things can be as prosperous as possible. History has shown that trade leads to mutual prosperity.
I hope we can have as close to free trade with China as possible.
This is just a basic foundational element in economics. If you stop trade between two large countries, both countries are worse off.
The reason one has trade is because one country is making something that’s better than what another country makes in some areas, and vice versa. You exchange goods and services that are the strength of one country and the strength of a different country.
People were trading in caveman times. It just makes things better.

If you assume that things roughly double per year, that’s about every three or four years you have a 10x increase.

If you think of Star Wars, we had C-3PO and R2-D2, and they were friendly, helpful robots.
Wouldn’t it be great if everyone could have their own personal C-3PO, R2-D2?
But even better than that — more productive — that could take care of elderly parents, watch over the children, or be a teacher, like an individualized tutor to your child, and take care of any jobs that you can think of.
I think everyone would like a future where they can have their own personal robots.
Then you’ll see many companies where it’s one person with hundreds, maybe thousands of robots.
Physical robots as well as digital robots.
So the productivity of one person would be greatly amplified.
My prediction is that there will be effectively universal high income.
