It wasn’t just a Chris Hanson character assassination, but a paranoid Reddit-tier indictment of basically anyone who expresses condemnation of pedophilia in general.
The pedophiles are largely portrayed sympathetically in comparison to Hanson’s savage sociopathy. The anti-pedophile characters are almost all shown as either bumbling idiots or secret predators themselves.
At one very batshit point, Hanson’s murky conscience is challenged by a rabbi he catches in a sting who the audience is almost led to forget was there to rape who he thought was a little boy (promised to him 3000 years ago ofc).
The climax of the film is a pedophile District Attorney killing himself after being aggressively pursued by Hanson and police.
In those final moments, the pedophile is portrayed as an uncertain, misunderstood, almost innocent guy who, again, you’re nearly instructed to forget had been exchanging lewd messages with a child. The decoy he’d been speaking to is shown crying as he solemnly sings the pedophile Seasons of Love from the gay musical Rent over the phone in the lead up to the sting and suicide.
While it was advertised as a critique of sensationalizing predator hunting, throughout the film Hanson’s desire to “use” pedophiles for his own “gain” was very clearly framed as the biggest sin.
Even as I was leaving the theater, I overheard someone ask “was Chris Hanson really that evil?”
The only saving grace of the movie was Robert Pattinson’s acting, which was 10/10 despite the overall narrative being shit.

Hikâyemiz gece yarısında başladı. Bölgenin 10 dakika içinde bombalanacağı konusunda uyarıldık. Hedefin yakınımızdaki Kudüs Bankası olduğu söylendi. Bunu duyduğumda olduğum yerde donup kaldım. Bu nasıl olabilirdi? Kudüs Bankası çadırıma sadece birkaç metre uzaklıktaydı.
Büyük bir korku içinde aceleyle çıktık. Her şeyimizi geride bıraktık. Yanımıza korkudan ve dualarımızdan başka hiçbir şey alamadık. Geri dönüp dönemeyeceğimizi bile bilmiyorduk.
Dakikalar sonra bombardıman başladı. O gün beni ve ailemi koruduğu, bize hayatta kalmayı nasip ettiği için Allah’a hamd ediyorum. Ancak geri dönmemize izin verildiğinde ve kampı gördüğümde onu tanıyamadım. Kampın tüm izleri silinmişti; sanki orada hiç bir şey olmamış gibiydi.

Norman Finkelstein said something this week that was sterling: people who want to know, know… people who don’t want to know won’t know.
The problem with people like Hutch and Destiny talking about Gaza and the West Bank is they only talk about language and never, ever show any conditions on the ground and certainly never anything that has regularly occurred for the civilian population since October 7th.
The result is you can argue about how insane and free-from-nuance that the “online pro-pally left” is, but you never have these unforgettable, seared into your brain images that the Palestinians have been living with since to contend with.
Understanding the “special intent” is there is a lot easier to fathom once you’ve seen the torrent of daily visuals coming from the region. Once you’ve heard the admissions from members of Israeli government all the way down to the lowest ranked IDF grunt. If you don’t make the slightest effort to put this material in front of your audience, in front of your community, is to take a side. You are no longer a neutral arbiter, you are deciding, by holding back crucial information, to take the side of the people doing the brutality by shielding your audience from it.
By shielding your audience from this, and arguing how wrong people are when they advocate for the Palestinians, you’re creating a safe space for those that cheer on the IDF… you are making money off them, you are profiting from those that want positive reinforcement for cheering on a pariah state and the barbarity it inflicts on innocent civilians every single day.
Watching this fucking video and hearing Hutch talk about how slimy a debate tactic Abdul is using by mentioning dead children… but guys he wants him to win his senate race, really! Hearing Hutch tell his audience “c’mon guys let’s not call him subhuman, I don’t like that…” man isn’t he merciful?
Any time these folks cry about being labeled a “Zionist” just scoff in their face. Their work speaks for itself. They engage in double speak. “I want the war to be over, I don’t want children to die… buuuuuuuut…” and then you hear an argument that suggests those children brought this on them selves, I mean what choice did they IDF have, really?
