Exactly a year ago these pictures were taken. My wife had an in person job interview. The night before, we said good night at 9pm as it’s a busy day tomorrow. She’s got a 3hr flight and a 4hr interview that included an hour presentation by her to the department she wanted to lead, and multiple managers from different departments. Past 12 I noticed this woman kept turning side to side, and I finally got up and told her let’s go downstairs. So we went downstairs, plugged the laptop to the TV, and I asked her to present to me. She presented to me over and over that night. Before we realized it, it was 4am. Her flight is in 5hrs, I’m supposed to resume work in 2hrs. Kids need to go to school in 3hrs. It was an easy decision for me to call work and say I’m not coming in today. As a healthcare worker, I don’t go to work when I’m not going to be able to give my 100%. So I told her to go back to bed. She insisted she’d stay downstairs and watch me as I get ready to prepare the boys’ school supplies and clean up. 10min into that she was fast asleep. By 7am the boys were ready for school. I left a note by her side in case she wakes up while we were gone. She didn’t. Placed a kiss on her lips and woke her up with a cup of coffee when I got back. She smelled it and woke straight up. In another hour she was ready to catch the flight. She did the interview, and after a standing ovation, she was told right there after the presentation on the stage, unanimously, the job is hers if she wants it. She told them she needed to make a phone call first. This woman called me while on the stage saying “babe we got the job.” I was fast asleep, my brain did not calibrate. I said what job… I was on speaker 😂 Anyway, she resumed the job 2 months later and we have to move the whole family to the other side of the country.

Gafment is going to find out that a BIG pillar of public health is TRUST. You must have trust from citizens. Not believability, not explanations-which is what this regime relies on, and repeatedly fails them. Trust in experts. This gava has problems with both truth and experts🙁
Dr. Ahmed Idris: Some of the comments we have seen from Kenyans claiming that this Ebola case is fictitious or a ploy to mobilise resources are extremely disheartening. This case was tested in 2 different labs that meet international standards. Tweeting for likes might sound funny but it’s not funny in people’s lives. Let’s take this thing seriously #CitizenExplainer

Interesting that I have not seen him in the media since he appeared in West Pokot near the gold mines. Fascinating country.
By coincidence, Oketch just got back on the TL. Interesting times.

I interviewed health workers who were on the front lines of battling Ebola in Sierra Leone. You can’t predict what people will do to protect their loved ones, or how far they’ll go to be close to them if they think they may die.
Dr. Patrick Amoth: We believe that the patient knew that he was already ill and reached out to his relatives who transported him from the airport. It is potentially possible that the medication that he was taking masked some of his symptoms and gave a false positive screening

The government has sadly worked its way out of trust. It’s even much more alarming that the frontline workers are the ones casting aspersions. Whether true or not(drill to simulate preparedness) such comms from government should be treated very seriously.
With such people, if ebola strikes, we'll be finished. The first step to dealing with an epidemic is to trust the government but if even doctors want to spread conspiracy theories, we are doomed. To quote Kagwe, if we treat this disease normally, it will treat us abnormally.

It is good to be known to be mad.
No one is going to put restrictions on Kenya, just observe and see and by the way, that patient didn’t pass through Uganda at all. Uganda is free from that, let’s avoid mentioning Uganda please. Everyone knows Kenya will put up a fight should anybody try to restrict them from free movement or Tourists.

Kasongo will not heal from this one 😂. Dr. Fred Matiang’i has told him that if he chooses to abuse others, there's nothing we can do since we cannot do the job of his mother- that of being responsible. When a person asks a question, you answer back, not insulting them.

How did an Ebola patient so close to the end make it into the country past our surveillance points and died in country? I have always had so much faith in our disease surveillance systems. What’s happening? Who dropped the ball? 😬😬😬
