Cartoon World = “the-world-the-way-we-think-it-‘should’-be.”
Real World = “the-world-the-way-it-actually-is.”
The more we align our expectations with reality, the more prepared we are to handle it.
"Aligning your expectations with reality" doesn't mean expecting the worst, it means expecting what's most likely to happen (past behaviors are the best predictors of future behavior). The more you prepare for reality, the better chance you have to handle it when you inevitably encounter it.

Try this:
Instead of assuming you “already know” whatever knowledge someone is sharing with you - listen openly, and genuinely try to understand why the information is being presented to you again.
In short, empty your cup.
Respond to people who bother, irk or anger you AS IF you hired them to say and do the kinds of things that bother, irk or anger you - - - And ALL OF IT is a test for you to gauge your ability to control your inner world.
