One thing you might feel watching Bama but not fully realize until you think about it: they don't chain 1st downs. Seemingly every 1st down comes off a 3rd down conversion. It's never get a first on 1st down, get a first after 2nd and 3. It's always having to convert 3rd and 5 all the way down the field. That's an IMPOSSIBLE way to live against good teams.

Alabama's obsession with shortening games is showing up in losses. Only 7 offensive possessions combined in the 2nd half vs UGA and UT (in spite of getting ball first vs UT). So a full game worth of football with 7 possessions. 2025 OU: Slow played with a 6.5 minute drive (42 yds) in the 4th WHILE TRAILING that resulted in no points and not enough time to get ball back 2026 UGA: Opening 1st Q drive took 7.5 mins to go 38 yards (no points). Only got 3 possessions in 2nd half. 2026 Tenn: Opening drive in 3Q took 5 mins to go 35 yards. Down 9 in 4th (next possession) took 2 mins to run 3 plays Defense stayed in prevent after that and allowed a 9 minute drive

This game is currently listed for 9 p.m. so it can be on SEC Network with 500 people there and no students. I'll be rooting for 4 games in Vegas and thus, a cancellation.
Just in case anyone is unaware this was sent to season ticket holders.

Vols defense was asking for the quick game. Shallow crossers, 10-12 yard dig routes and comebacks, hitches…Hell, how about a damn curl route. The fact that no version of the West Coast offense has been used by Grubb is why he’s out of the NFL.
I need February to get here tommorow

I don’t want to pick on D. Lee, but why would you not force the WR back into the field of play? Our couches might be to give Chuck McDonald some snaps this week. Off man with poor technique will look just like this the remainder of the year.
Is Kane Wommack going to do anything other than play soft coverage on these Tennessee receivers? Obviously what you’re doing, AINT working my guy.

If Bama wants to compete with playoff-caliber teams, who often rely on power and great OL play (not RPO or spread), they MUST add a secondary power scheme to the defensive playbook. Heupel outcoached Bama by NOT running his scheme. Bama MUST adapt their scheme (or DC) to match.

Go figure Ryan Grubb runs this slow ass hand off and the tight ends just absolutely forget how to block and Alabama cants convert a 4th and 1

This makes zero sense. We rotate every position on defense but can’t rotate WRs? The starters got clamped. How do you not give Ced and Rogers more chances?
Noah Rogers and Cederian Morgan each played 2 snaps for Alabama at Tennessee, while Derek Meadows played 51 in the absence of Ryan Coleman-Williams. 247sports.com/college/alabam…

Yep. I really like Kane as a person, but this defense isn't it. It doesn't attack enough, it's soft coverage relying on turnovers way too much. It leads to lower scores but also long drives where your offense doesn't have the ball.
