Science says is that some specific terpenes will be more pronounced at their specific boiling point at different temperatures.
That to me tells me the science is literally telling you that it won’t taste with proper translation.
With a perfect joint and good flower I find you get the best smell to flavour translation. The best flower will taste almost exactly the same as it smells.
With a vape you’re literally heating it at temperatures that will specifically bring out some terpenes over others, even if they’re not actually the most pronounced terpenes in the flower. So the smell to taste isn’t the same at all.
For a specific example, let’s say your flower is has Pinene (best release temp 156C), Linalool (200C), terpinolene (183C) and Borneol (212), and you vape it st 180C, you’re just going to dominate the Terpinolene over everything, even if it’s not actually the most dominant terpene in the flower.

I’ll be real, if you say that joints taste like burning plant and you can only taste weed in a vape, you just have shit weed or you can’t roll doinks.
I’m only saying this because everyone told me to put my money where my mouth is and buy a ball vape.
Now I don’t wanna hear shit from anyone else unless they’ve smoked one of my joints, just like they told me they don’t wanna hear anything from me unless I buy a ball vape 😂

First bowl, very flavoursome even though it was too hot.
Next two bowls at different temperatures still tasted okay.
Every bowl I hit after that, regardless of temp, just tasted like pure vaped weed flavour with 0 terp and 0 translation.
Literally everyone told me “you don’t have to clean the bowl, you don’t have to replace the gauze, you can just load up a go”…
But there’s small spec amounts of vaped weed on the inside of the bowl & gauze after? So every hit, that just gets vaped more and more and completely overpowers any terps, and just gives old vaped weed flavour.
So my conclusion is: the ball vape can potentially give super good flavour, I’d say about on par as intense as a smoking 10/10 joint, but with more mouth stain.
HOWEVER, that is just for the first bowl.
To go through all of that effort of a setup, to then have to clean the bowl & replace the gauze every time, just to be able to get ONE hit, yeah that shit is NOT worth it.
I can roll a joint that has just as good flavour, and sometimes on rare occasions as good mouth stain, and I get 100 hits from it, and there’s no weed from my previous joint affecting the flavour of it, everything is fresh. 💀
