DriftNote just got accepted into the Claude Startups program 🎉
Podcast notes, quotes and recaps, now powered by Claude.
Solo founder, big week. Let's build.
Two frameworks worth stealing:
1"Reaction to the action." Look for businesses that fix the side effects of a big trend. Snapchat was a reaction to Facebook's permanent record.
2Today's weird ideas become tomorrow's normal. See peptides and psychedelics.
Why the gap exists:
Hollywood is risk averse and chases movies that appeal to everyone.
That leaves a pile of overlooked projects and audiences.
A24 built its brand picking up exactly the films the majors passed on.
Idea 3: Studios built around values
Angel Studios makes films with no swearing, no drugs and clear heroes. It has around 3 million members who crowdfund projects and vote on what gets made.
Big studios ignore this audience. That's the gap.
Proof it works:
🔹 Knights of Columbus, a Catholic fraternal group that's a huge life insurer 🔹 Good Sam, for RV owners 🔹 USCCA, insurance for gun owners
The loneliness epidemic makes this model more relevant now, not less.
Idea 2: Community + insurance
Find a group with a strong shared identity. Give members belonging, events and discounts. Make your money selling them life insurance.
It sounds weird. It's one of the most durable models out there.
@thesamparr and @ShaanVP prediction: within 12 months you'll see nasal sprays marketed as a fix for loneliness, social awkwardness and struggling marriages.
The catch: the science is thin, and the rules on it vary by country. Big opportunity, big risk.
Idea 1: Oxytocin products
Oxytocin is the bonding hormone behind the parent and baby connection and romantic attachment.
@PalmerLuckey joked that if he started again, he'd fight divorce with "oxytocin doping for marriage counseling."
My First Million just named 3 businesses they think are about to blow up.
One is a hormone.
One is a 140 year old insurance trick. One is a movie studio Hollywood keeps ignoring.
Here's the breakdown 🧵
Honestly DriftNote has not had the huge impact I was hoping for.
But it’s been growing organically pretty consistently
This month I’ve started daily TikToks so far no major impact but let’s see.
Does anyone here have any experience making consumer websites.
For users to go and buy items/products.
Was thinking shopify with its integration but not sure. Would be cheaper to build and host myself.
Anyone have any advice?
Really enjoyed this @dhh and @davidsenra episode.
The best part was the 'less software' philosophy 🧠
Embracing constraints and ruthless editing leads to focused products, not bloat.
