I met a gentleman this morning when I was going to grab coffee. He pulled over his car to shake my hand somewhere in Tribeca. And when we got to talking, he began explaining to me that he was ashamed to say that despite having lived here for decades, he was finally leaving. That he’d just hit a breaking point and couldn’t take it anymore. Can we blame him? I mean, can we? I do my God’s honest best to stand up for what I KNOW is right here. For clean, safe streets where women and children don’t have to walk half a mile in the opposite direction to take a subway they’re already rightly nervous about riding. And through it all, I’ve never harboured a SHRED of hatred, discrimination, or bigotry. I still don’t. But something’s gotta give. Something gotta change. Because from a sheer quality of life perspective, this city is just spinning out of control.
