HEATHER HEALTH UPDATE: My sister Heather is doing well. One of the 4 bypasses failed but they think she will be ok without it. She is 3 hours from heart hospital and they scheduled her for all of these follow-ups with various doctors. Of course she could not keep doing 3-hour round trips. You just have to count the dollars right. Here's the trick nobody bothers with. A dollar today is not a dollar from 2008 or 1981. To compare it fair, you put every price in today's money first. Do that, and watch what happens. Today the national average is about $4.37 a gallon. Back in 2008, gas hit the equivalent of about $6.20 a gallon in today's dollars! That's the real all-time record. Under Biden in 2022 it spiked to around $5.55 in today's money! Even way back in 1981 it ran about $5.32. So at $4.37, we sit below all three. 2008, 2022, and 1981 were all pricier than right now once you count the dollars straight. Is gas high? Sure. It stings and nobody's calling it cheap. But "highest ever"? Not even close. That's the oldest trick there is, quote the sticker number and hope you forgot what a dollar used to buy. Count it in real money, and today doesn't even crack the top three.
