“Mental health is everything” “You're not alone” “Checking in on your mates is real friendship” You can't be what you can't see. When the best speak up about mental health, they give others permission to do the same. Love this from @FlyQuestCS. True role modelling.
Check in on your mates. #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth 💚

What if the antidote to gaming disorder isn’t less gaming, but better gaming? Our latest article for the @Movember Institute of Men's Health Substack dives into the surprising potential of esports as a tool to support young men’s mental health. While much of the conversation about gaming focuses on harm—gaming disorder, screen time, and addiction, there’s a growing body of evidence showing that structured, competitive gaming (esports) can foster social connection, resilience, and healthier habits. In this post, I unpack: 🎮 Why the concern about unhealthy gaming habits matters 📊 Who might be most at risk (see the chart — teen boys top the list) 🧠 How structured esports environments can offer social connection, mental health support, and opportunities for real-world growth 🏫 What schools, leagues, and communities can do to support healthy gaming cultures This isn’t about quitting gaming but changing how we play. 🎮💬New Research Funding Opportunity! The Movember Institute of Men’s Health is excited to announce a Request for Applications (RFA) for our Gaming x Masculinities and Young Men’s Mental Health research partnership funding. We're looking for a bold, innovative researcher or team to explore a critical question: What impact does gaming have on young men’s masculinities—and vice versa? This two-stage funding (totalling $125,000 AUD or equivalent local currency) will support the development of actionable, evidence-based insights that can shape mental health programs, inform policy, and better understand masculinity within gaming spaces. 🎯Stage 1: Conduct a comprehensive review on gaming masculinities (6 months, $25k AUD) 🚀Stage 2: Design and implement follow-up research with support from Movember (18 months, $100k AUD) We welcome applications from those with expertise in masculinities, gaming, mental health, youth research, or any intersection of these areas. 🗓️Applications close: 16 April 2025 📄RFA details here: au.movember.com/about/fundin… Let’s build a better understanding of how gaming shapes identity, connection, and wellbeing for the next generation of men. @zacseidler @KristaSFisher
