Crews have issued safety advice after a house fire in Basildon today caused by an overloaded socket.
The property didn't have working smoke alarms and the occupants escaped through a first floor window because the front and back door were locked.

Crews left the scene of a thatched roof fire in Hatfield Broad Oak today at 4.42am.
A crew revisited the site this morning to check for hotspots and the fire remained fully extinguished.
An investigation to establish the cause will be carried out today.

Crews tackling a roof fire in Hatfield Broad Oak are continuing to work hard to remove the thatched material and check for hotspots.
Six crews remain at the scene and this will continue to be scaled back over the next few hours.

We were called today at 3.20pm and 10 crews and an aerial ladder platform are at the scene.
Station Manager Howard Midwood said: "Firefighters are extinguishing the fire and stripping back the roof."

Firefighters extinguished a fire affecting a silo at 11:35am.
Crews then worked throughout the afternoon to dismantle the silo and monitor hotspots inside.
An fire investigation was carried out this afternoon and found the fire was caused accidentally.
