Been fairly quiet these past few months, wanted to give a little update amongst all the stress from so many uncertain things at the club and decisions out of control on the entire journey working under the club.
As you can imagine with the regime of former chairman and admin fiasco…
But I haven’t seen much clarity and don’t expect there to be so I’ll say it.
I’m currently working through things and transitioning from not working with
@OWLSEsportsX and
#swfc
For those wondering why, essentially the club has been going through renovations and changes all round. Very much positive after the last few years. I thought “Great! he club is now is a good spot and people want to reach out and invest” This was the case within a couple weeks.
It felt like we were only just getting started with positivity back at the club.
But we had notice the Esports suite at the stadium (which was designed for education purposes) wasn’t able to stay where it was and we needed to find “alternative” plans.
After going through proposals for ideas of sustainability and areas we’d finally maybe be supported in. We looked at places to relocate and areas allowed to make money or initiate grants for projects. There was presented areas to relocate even partner with brilliant setups and businesses. Shoutout
@TeamEndpoint @AdamJessop for working putting together the vision of being involved positively with the club.
To be transparent, essentially it all fell on deaf ears and the process was dismissed fairly quickly. Almost felt rushed to be put through the process of cutting the department. Within a week of first consultation, the second was to be done.
As a whole was given abrupt feedback with little explanation to why these proposals weren’t going to be sufficient. Which didn’t seem constructive.
So where does this leave the Esports and gaming department and community alongside the discord and socials built?
As far as I know they aren’t to continue and it’s not a priority to support it. Maybe There’s a place they return soon.
There is a really good opportunity even through community, education and alternative provision. To also involve some amazing brands and businesses you wouldn’t typically see in sports to create some activations or initiatives that are impactful to a wider range of audiences.
I’m grateful for being able to step into an area I’m so enthusiastic and passionate about at a club I actually support in my home town. But my god is it frustrating having felt misheard and misunderstood.
I feel greatly disappointed in the support shown, but maybe it’s a blessing in disguise.
Onto the next project. Thanks to all the people we had worked with at the club, from partners to people in the community engaging with us daily. It was fun.
Onto looking for the next project✌🏻
