ALT The effect of distance to trails on the log relative selection strength (log-RSS) for red deer individuals that did not cross a trail during the day and at night over the hunting season and the nonhunting season. The colored curves indicate the log-RSS for different areas: Red lines represent the log-RSS values of sites within the hunting zone, and solid green lines those of sites outside the hunting zone. Curves are drawn over the 95% range of the sites where red deer were observed. The larger the value of log-RSS, the greater the chance that an encountered site will be selected. Log-RSS values are with reference to a non-road-crossing step, outside the hunting zone and all other covariates were set to 0 (i.e., the mean for scaled covariates). Horizontal dashed lines indicate whether the likelihood to select s1 over s2 is the same. Vertical dashed lines indicate the value of s2 (i.e., the reference of any s1 value shown on the x-axis).
