I’ve been tracking mine lately 🫡
I've been hearing people say glucose spikes don't matter as long as your average blood sugar looks fine. Your brain may disagree. Researchers put continuous glucose monitors on older adults for three days and then scanned their brains. The people whose glucose swung up and down the most over 30 minutes to 2 hours had less gray matter in the hippocampus (the brain's memory center) and did worse on cognitive tests. That held even after accounting for HbA1c (the three-month blood sugar average most doctors check). A normal average can hide plenty of spikes and crashes. I'd pay attention to what happens after meals, not just the number on your lab report. Ideally, keep the swings small. And really only a CGM can tell you this.

Moms (to be): your metabolism matters. It may shape your child's mental health for decades. In a Danish study of 2.4 million births followed for up to almost 40 years, children whose mothers had diabetes during pregnancy were 15% more likely to be diagnosed with a psychiatric disorder. Their risk of schizophrenia was 55% higher, and anxiety, intellectual disability and behavioral disorders were also more common. Mom's blood sugar crosses the placenta, and the baby's pancreas answers by making more insulin. A developing brain grows in whatever metabolic environment mom provides.

Great explanation of our biology!
Humans are facultative carnivores, and the word omnivore has spent fifty years covering for it. A mammal is built to eat one of four ways: - Obligate carnivore: meat or death. The cat. - Facultative carnivore: built for meat, tolerates plants. The dog. - Omnivore: runs both fuels properly. The pig. - Herbivore: plants and nothing else. The cow, the gorilla. The cat cannot make its own taurine and will not pretend to. The dog ate your sock as a precaution. The pig eats the fence. The gorilla chews for twelve hours a day to stay that shape. Now the body you are standing in: - Stomach acid: pH 1.5, carcass strength - Gut: mostly small intestine, where meat and fat go in - Colon: short, a hobby fermenter at best - Fat store: months - Sugar store: a day - Brain: switches to fat when the biscuits stop - B12: cannot make it, and no plant makes it either The gorilla is a fermentation tank with arms. You are a dog with a smaller jaw and a longer list of excuses. Omnivore describes what you can get away with. Facultative carnivore describes what you were built for.

I’m having 1.5g-2g of protein per kg of body weight for a few years now. Feeling better than in my twenties. No colds for years, no chronic disease. All biomarkers elite and reproductive hormones through the roof at 38. Protein for healthspan maxxing so underrated 💪
If you're over 50 and eating the "recommended" amount of protein, you are slowly losing muscle. The RDA (recommended daily allowance; 0.8 g/kg body weight) wasn't designed to protect muscle specifically, and when older adults eat exactly that amount, the body will likely be steadily losing protein from muscle. I'd treat the RDA as the bare minimum. Ideally, double it.

When your cravings are absolutely out of control due to insulin resistance. Someone put him on reta.
🇮🇷🇮🇳 Iranian President Pezeshkian is addressing the BRICS Summit. Behind him, India’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Randhir Jaiswal is absolutely demolishing a box of nuts. Eating. Licking his fingers. Going back in. Eventually, someone takes the box away. A diplomatic intervention in the truest sense. Writer: Oliver

For a disease literally defined by high blood sugar, why isn’t the first step always simply to eat less sugar? Type 2 diabetes is a disease of chronic carbohydrate consumption.

Metabolic health benefits the most when insulin comes down the most. A new clinical trial tested three popular diets, and the diet that lowered insulin the most delivered the greatest metabolic payoff. Liver fat fell almost 50% more on the low-carb diet than on the others (low-fat plant-based and Mediterranean). The liver also became two to three times more insulin sensitive, produced less new fat from carbohydrate, and suppressed glucose production more effectively. Insulin across the day dropped far more with carbohydrate restriction, glucose fell more than twice as much, A1c improved the most, and prediabetes (i.e., insulin resistance) reversed at the highest rate. That is the beneficial biochemistry of a lower-insulin state. When insulin falls, the liver is no longer pushed to make and store fat. Lipogenesis slows, glucagon can tell the liver to oxidize fat instead, and the tissue becomes more responsive to the insulin that remains. The body becomes more insulin sensitive, and the liver can finally burn the fat it has been holding. Even though total weight loss was comparable across the three groups (by study design), lower insulin is what let the liver let go of the fat. cell.com/cell-metabolism/ful…

We’re losing quality and quantity of consciousness. Not enough people work on offsetting physical and cognitive decline in current and future generations. I’ve been working on this through my research for many years and I feel privileged to have the opportunity to do so.

Whatever supplement you're taking, even if you feel like it's good, but it spikes your insulin & has sweeteners, it's not the best supplement you can take. The amount of nonsense formulations, gummies and sachets full of sugar out there, is just absolutely insane.

1/ There are two ways to move through the world: You can consume what already exists. Or you can create something that didn’t exist before. Both can feel good. But only one leaves the world different because you were here.

7/ The deepest fulfilment does not come from asking: “What else can I experience?” It comes from asking: “What can exist because I was here?”

8/ Consume enough to understand the world. Create enough to improve it. Because in the long term, the most rewarding life is not the one that experienced the most. It is the one that contributed the most.

Neuroinflammation is what’s stealing your memory and focus away.
Chronic inflammation doesn’t have to be intense to affect your brain. When low-level inflammation lingers, it can weaken the blood–brain barrier, loosening its tight seals and allowing inflammatory molecules to slip into the brain—quietly accelerating brain aging over time.
