The Gears of War: E-Day Takeover in LA was absolutely amazing. The venue looked incredible, the atmosphere was awesome, and I’m genuinely thankful I had the opportunity to be there and experience it in person.
If I had one criticism, it would be how the event handled the turnout. It felt like they weren’t prepared for just how many people were going to show up. There had to be well over 2,000 people there, and after waiting around 6 hours to finally get inside, the amount of time you were actually allowed to spend in the venue felt very limited.
Once you got in, you basically had to choose what part of the experience mattered most to you. Do you grab some food? Get in line for the meet-and-greet? Walk around and actually take in the venue and everything they put together? Depending on what you chose, there was a good chance you wouldn’t have enough time for something else.
I completely understand that the turnout was probably much bigger than expected, and honestly, seeing that many people show up for Gears was incredible. I just wish we had been given more time inside to really soak it all in. After waiting that long, it sometimes felt like you were being pushed in and back out before you really had a chance to enjoy everything.
That being said, I’m still extremely grateful I got to attend. Seeing that kind of turnout, excitement, and passion surrounding Gears was awesome, and the Takeover itself was beautiful.
I’m glad I made the trip, got to see some familiar faces, and had the chance to catch up with some great people. At the end of the day, it was an experience I’m happy I got to be part of, and it definitely made me even more excited for Gears of War: E-Day.
