Week 6 of high school football tonight!

Girls flag football is in its first season at EVSC, and all five of our high schools put a team on the field this fall. The crowd noise and energy made it pretty clear this sport is going to stick around. Indiana had 8 girls flag football teams in 2023. This fall it has 108, and Bosse, Central, Harrison, North and Reitz are all on that list. Good luck out there this season, ladies.

Dr. Hoover visited Cynthia Heights and Harper kindergarteners to see the family pictures they created and hear what they have learned in their first few weeks of school. 100% IREAD pass rate at Oak Hill School. Every single third grader. Dr. Hoover visited last week to celebrate with the students and teachers behind that number. Congratulations, Oak Hill!

Four EVSC high schools are ranked in the top 25% of all high schools in Indiana by U.S. News & World Report: Central High School, New Tech Institute, F.J. Reitz High School, and North High School (which placed in the top 10% statewide). U.S. News evaluates schools across the state on college readiness, state assessment proficiency, graduation rates, and curriculum breadth. Congratulations to the students and educators at Central, North, New Tech, and Reitz on earning statewide recognition.

The school year just started, but for the Class of 2027, the finish line is officially on the calendar. Save the date for your school, and make every week between now and May count.

Last night, the EVSC Board of School Trustees and Dr. Hoover recognized principals from across the district whose schools achieved a 90% or higher pass rate on the IREAD assessment. Reaching that mark takes deliberate, consistent work from foundational reading instruction in early grades to targeted intervention and daily practice. Congratulations!

Every EVSC student is back in the building together today, closing out our first week of the 2026-27 school year. Teachers are greeting our youngest students with high fives at the door, and hallways across the district were full of energy this morning. It's a great day across the district, and we couldn't be more excited for what this year holds. Welcome back!

Indiana Secretary of Education @SecJennerIN traveled to Evansville this morning to see two schools firsthand: Oak Hill Elementary, which achieved a perfect 100% IREAD pass rate, and Caze Elementary, which achieved 97%. Dr. Jenner toured classrooms at both buildings, watched instruction in action, and personally thanked the administrators, teachers, staff, and students responsible. When the state's top education official shows up in person, it's because the work is worth seeing. Thanks for visiting, Dr. Jenner!

The last of our EVSC students were back in the building today, and it was a great first day. Lockers filled up, hallways buzzed, and after a summer away, students across the district picked up right where they left off. Everyone's back together starting Friday. Let's make this a great year!

The 2026 IREAD results are in, and nine EVSC schools recorded pass rates above 90%, up from five schools last year. Oak Hill led the way with a perfect 100% pass rate. Caze and Vogel both surpassed 96%, followed by Highland, McCutchanville, Cynthia Heights, West Terrace, Hebron and Scott. The progress reaches across EVSC, with the district-wide pass rate also increasing from 2025. Reading is the foundation for everything that follows in a student’s education. These results reflect students rising to a high academic standard, supported by skilled educators and families committed to their success. This is excellence in action across EVSC, and it deserves to be celebrated. @EducateIN
