The allegations against @onyekanwelue Onyeka Nwelue centre on misrepresentation of academic status, misuse of Oxford/Cambridge facilities for commercial gain, and misogynistic, racist, and classist conduct, all documented by multiple reputable outlets. Key Allegations (Verified by Oxford, Cambridge & multiple investigations) False claims of being a professor Cherwell’s investigation found he repeatedly described himself online as a Professor at Oxford and Cambridge, despite neither university ever conferring that title. Both institutions confirmed he only held a temporary Academic Visitor status unpaid, non teaching, and non staff. Misuse of university logos and premises He used Oxford’s African Studies Centre logo and other university branding to promote a commercial book launch, charging attendees £20 something Oxford events normally do not do. This breach led directly to the termination of his Visitorship. Misogynistic behaviour at events Students reported explicitly sexist remarks at his book launch, including comments implying women “sleep their way to the top” and that marrying a woman “holds men back.” Attendees said the environment felt “incredibly uncomfortable.” Racist and classist social media posts Posts attributed to him included statements such as: “No poor person has any value.” “African women look like masquerades when they wear wigs and makeup.” “Being raised in a poor family chains you mentally to be stupid.” These contributed to student complaints and the subsequent investigation.
