In June 1768, Owen Parfitt was a disabled man in his 70s living in Shepton Mallet, England. One summer evening, he was settled into a chair outside his sister's front porch, as he was most evenings. Farm workers were out in the field across the road, and his sister stepped inside for just a short time.
When she returned, Parfitt was gone. The chair was still there.
He was physically unable to walk on his own. There was no crowd, no carriage, no disturbance. Just an empty chair where a man had been sitting moments before.
No body was ever found. No witness ever came forward.
This case is over 250 years old, and it remains one of history's stranger unsolved disappearances. What do you think happened to Owen?
