Got my Absolute Batman #1 Akira Homages back from @key_comix yesterday and these are staying in the PC. The care, communication, and energy he puts into the work is real. When I’m trusting someone with a book that matters, that stuff counts. If I need a grail taken to the next level, he’s my first stop. And yes, they’re protected with key guards from @KEYGUARDSHOP!

I remember getting these from @thirdeyecomics. There was a lot of buzz around this title and they were getting Dragotta and Snyder for a signing at release. Of course I ordered double signed copies from Third Eye’s website. Now we’re getting an animated series. This is crazy!!

Absolute Batman getting an animated series is exactly why DC needs to stop treating animation like the backup plan. Some Batman stories are too big, weird, and stylized for live action. This is one of them. No mansion. No money. Just a Batman built out of anger, survival, and purpose.

There’s something special about seeing a modern Batman and Robin book executed at this level. All Star Batman & Robin, the Boy Wonder #1 is already a standout release thanks to the stunning Jim Lee foil variant, but this copy takes it even further with multiple creator signatures and a PSA 9.8 grade. Jim Lee’s Batman has become the defining visual for an entire generation of fans, and many collectors don’t realize that his Batman artwork has been used as the foundation for everything from comic covers to video games, animated projects, and merchandising for decades. Another cool fact is that the original All Star Batman & Robin series from 2005 was one of DC’s highest selling launches of the modern era, making every new return to that title a major event for longtime Batman fans. What really makes this piece pop is the yellow KEYGUARD® framing the book perfectly. The yellow accents in Robin’s costume and the foil elements on the cover tie everything together in a way that feels intentional, almost like the display was designed around the artwork itself. Don’t just try your best - do your best.

Just received my Seth Mann Absolute Batman 19 from One Stop Comic Shop. Protecting my @CGCComics slab with a @KEYGUARDSHOP guard. I thought about using red but the black pops differently with the spot foil.

I think there’s a difference between helping new collectors avoid hype traps and gatekeeping. Education protects the hobby. Gatekeeping makes people feel like they don’t belong in it. I’m all for sharing history, context, and lessons from past crashes. That’s needed. But the goal should be helping people enjoy collecting smarter, not making them feel late to a world someone else owns.

Gatekeeping is the weirdest part of collecting. Knowing the history should make you a guide, not a bouncer. New collectors are not a threat. Different ways of collecting are not watering the hobby down. People finding joy in signatures, slabs, raw books, variants, art, or creator experiences is growth. You can protect the culture without acting like you own the entrance.

No disagreement. Signatures have always mattered. I’ve been collecting since the 90s. My point is that the ecosystem around them has changed: more audience segments, more creator visibility, more activations beyond the books, and more ways for new collectors to enter the space. That’s what’s creating new grails.
