Anyone in Ireland over 40 has seen this playbook before. During the banking crisis, they hid the scale of the wreckage until they couldn’t hide it anymore. Watching the same thing happen again is incredible.

Eurostat’s July figures are staggering. Ireland is in the highest per capita band, with 22 per 1,000 Population under temporary protection from Ukraine, compared with an EU wide rate of 9.8. That’s 2.2 times the EU rate. Put it another way, 1 in every 46 people in Ireland is now a Ukrainian under temporary protection. Ireland is thousands of kilometres from Ukraine. These numbers are staggering.

From 2019 to 2025, Irish nationals employed in our much coveted medical and pharmaceutical jobs grew 52%. Non-Irish national employment grew 90%. That’s 1.7 times faster. In 2019, 1 in 5 workers was non-Irish. By 2025, it was 1 in 4.

The sad reality in Ireland is that most of the politicians sitting in the Dáil seem more interested in creating content for their LinkedIn profiles than actually running the country. Politics has become their career. Their decisions aren't abstract anymore. They're deciding whether people can afford a home, raise a family or build any kind of future here. People are working, paying taxes and still can't afford to live. It's disgraceful what has happened to this country.
