In the end, Connor Zary's demotion proved to be an exercise in message-sending — that he needs to be better and do things differently. As do the rest of the Flames. @EricFrancis has the story. sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/sho…

Is Connor Zary about to be the next Sam Bennett, or the next Greg Nemisz? My column on the decision to put him on waivers:
Thanks to a humbling start for both Connor Zary and the Flames, things have degenerated to the point where the 25-year-old was placed on waivers. @EricFrancis explores what's next for Zary after Monday's decision in Calgary. sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/wha…

Connor Zary on waivers marks a disappointing moment in the relationship between the team and the first rounder. Fascinating to see if he is taken on by another team, or is sent to the minors. Tough start to what he hoped would be a narrative-flipping season.
#Flames have Connor Zary and Brayden Pachal on waivers Monday.

Outscored an unfathomable 16-3 in its first three games, Calgary's loss on Sunday underscored just how far it is from playing the type of hockey needed to keep games close during this rebuild. @EricFrancis has more on the Flames' rough start. sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/fla…

Three goals on six shots for the Kraken, as a fragile Flames team continues to struggle in every way. Three defensive miscues and a goalie (Wolf) who couldn’t bail his teammates out.

In the spirit of getting excited for a new arena, I present one of the leagues best: Climate Pledge Arena, here in Seattle. Only rink in the league that serves Kelp Chips.

Will be interested to see how many goalies in the league go to dark webbing as Cooley will. Will be watching to see if Wolf moves to it as early as tonight. Such a small, easy adjustment that makes so much sense.
After Liam Öhgren's third-period goal was initially waived off, the white webbing in Flames goalie Devin Cooley's glove helped show the puck across the line in replays. @EricFrancis explains how the ruling turned the tide in Calgary's loss in Vancouver. sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/ove…

Devin Cooley on the video replay decision made because officials saw the puck through his white webbing: “What I think happened was I covered it and it hit this part of my glove and then pushed underneath. I went to Depo on the bench. I was like, ‘What if I have black netting and a black coloring on the glove?’ Like maybe that might make a difference.”

Parekh takes massive hit at centre ice w his head down and hobbles to the bench, clearly winded, leading to the Canucks third goal. Parekh back on ice now.

Just spoke to Rod Pasma in the NHL’s situation room, who confirmed the Ohgren goal counted because they could see the puck moving around through the white webbing of Cooley’s glove. If that webbing was black, it might not have been as easily ruled a goal.

Shhhhh. Don’t tell the Canucks’ scoreboard folks that the lad wearing no. 55 for the Flames now doesn’t look like Noah Hanifin anymore.

Energetic start by the Flames here in Vancouver, marked by a spirited tussle between Klapka and Schenn.
