🦌🔊 Turn the sound UP.
First come those strange grunts and clicks…
Then suddenly — THAT BUGLE.
There’s nothing quite like hearing a bull elk during the rut in Estes Park. 🏔️
Have you ever heard one bugle in person?
🦌 Just another fall day in downtown Estes Park. 😂
A massive bull crosses Elkhorn Avenue, spots a female…
And suddenly they’re BOTH heading down the sidewalk.
During the rut, downtown belongs to the elk sometimes. 🏔️
Give them space and let them go where they’re going. ❤️
🦌 Just another normal day in downtown Estes Park. 😂
Cars. Shops. People walking around.
And a cow elk with her calf casually crossing Elkhorn Avenue.
Everybody waits.
Because around here, sometimes the locals have four legs. 🏔️❤️
🍂 Trail Ridge Road is turning GOLD. 💛🏔️
Aspens glowing beside the road. Dark green pines. Cool mountain air.
Then you keep climbing and the high country opens up in front of you.
Colorado fall doesn’t last long.
So slow down, enjoy the curves and take WAY too many pictures. 😂📸
🫎 Sprague Lake was already beautiful…
Then a MOOSE showed up. 😂🏔️
That’s the magic of RMNP wildlife. Sometimes you’re simply in the right place at the right moment.
Give them space. Use your zoom. Let wildlife be wild. ❤️
🎥 Huge thanks to Rebecca Herber for sharing this incredible moment!
🍂 One of the best ways to arrive in Estes Park in the fall?
Devil’s Gulch Road from Glen Haven.
Golden aspens. Winding mountain roads. Then you crest that final hill…
And THERE’S LONGS PEAK. 🏔️❤️
Sometimes the best part of arriving is the road that brings you there.
🏔️ There are scenic drives…
And then there’s Trail Ridge Road.
The trees disappear. The tundra opens up. The mountains stretch forever.
And suddenly it feels like you’re driving across the top of Colorado. 🚗❤️
Every curve brings another:
“Wait… LOOK AT THAT.” 😂
🌸 Some of the best Estes Park moments don’t happen on a mountain summit.
Sometimes it’s a slow walk beside the river. 💧
Coffee nearby. Shops around the corner. Mountains in the distance.
And absolutely nowhere you need to hurry.
That’s the Estes Park Riverwalk. ❤️🏔️
🍂 Colorado fall showing off near Camp St. Malo in Allenspark.
Golden aspens. Evergreens. Cool mountain air.
And this little bridge sitting right in the middle of it all. 🏔️💛
Sometimes you don’t need a hike or a famous overlook.
You just round a corner…
And Colorado gives you THIS. 😍
🌄 There’s a moment on Highway 34 when the canyon opens, the mountains appear, and somebody in the car says:
“There it is.” 🏔️❤️
Estes Park.
For so many of us, Highway 34 isn’t just the road into town.
It’s where Estes Park begins.
🔥 TWO BULLS. ONE COW. AND HIGHWAY 34. 🦌😳
Throwback to last year’s rut when two massive bull elk charged across the highway after the same cow.
She kept moving like she wanted absolutely NOTHING to do with the drama. 😂
Just another Estes Park drive suddenly turning into a wildlife documentary.
🍂 Fall on the Estes Park Riverwalk just hits differently.
Golden leaves over the water.
The Big Thompson River flowing beside you.
Cool mountain air.
And somehow you forget you’re right in the middle of downtown. ❤️
No trailhead. No summit. No reason to hurry.
Sometimes you just need a slow fall walk beside the river. 🌊🍂
🦌 Yep… he REALLY is urinating on himself. 😂
During the rut, bull elk will rake the ground, create wallows and coat themselves in that unmistakable rut scent.
To us?
“Sir. You just peed all over yourself.”
To him?
“Ladies.” 😏🦌
Nature is fascinating… and occasionally disgusting. 😂
💧 Sometimes the best view isn’t ahead of you.
It’s BELOW you.
A mountain stream cutting through the rocks. Little cascades between the boulders. Pines clinging to the gorge. 🌲
No famous viewpoint. No sign telling you to stop.
Just one of those Rocky Mountain moments you almost walked right past.
Sometimes you have to remember to look down. 🏔️❤️
🦌 “You’re part of this place now.” ❤️
You look across the golf course in Estes Park…
And there’s an elk casually hanging out like he owns the place.
And honestly?
He kind of does. 😂⛳️
For a little while, you’re not just visiting Estes Park.
You get to be part of it.
Just remember—the wildlife always gets to play through.
🐄 Ever notice cows seem to be chewing ALL. THE. TIME? 😂
They’re actually chewing their cud—bringing partially digested food back up to chew it again.
So while these cows are lying under the trees looking like they have absolutely nothing to do…
They’re technically working.
Sort of. 😂
Eat. Relax. Chew breakfast again.
Honestly, cows may have life figured out.
💦 You hear it before you see it.
Mountain water rushing through the rocks… getting louder with every step.
Then suddenly, you stop.
Because sometimes the best part of the trail isn’t the view waiting at the end.
It’s the moment that makes you stop along the way. 🏔️❤️
Would you stay awhile… or keep hiking?
🏔️ There are drives… and then there’s Trail Ridge Road.
The trees disappear.
The sky gets HUGE.
And suddenly you’re driving through the high country of Rocky Mountain National Park. 🚗❤️
Around every curve?
Another reason to say, “Okay… ONE more stop.” 😂
The road isn’t just how you get there.
The DRIVE is the experience.
💧 Sometimes the creek IS the destination.
You’re hiking through the trees when you hear water rushing over the rocks…
And suddenly, the next viewpoint can wait. 🌲
No agenda. No summit.
Just five quiet minutes beside a mountain creek.
Would you stop here… or keep hiking?
🦌 TURN THE SOUND UP. 🔊
There’s nothing quite like hearing a bull elk bugle during the fall rut in Estes Park.
Powerful. Eerie. Almost prehistoric.
Give these animals plenty of space and let your zoom do the getting closer.
