This class of scams has been around for a while now. We initially wrote about it and how victims can detect and protect themselves from it in 2022 -> medium.com/remix-ide/remix-i…
...and since then, we've added a lot of features that make it difficult to get victims to execute this type of code on Remix. For example, a warning modal pops up every time you paste code into Remix, prompting you to use our AI Assistant to review the code. Our AI Assistant is able to catch this class of scams and warn you even if the code is deeply obfuscated.
Scammers found a way to make people drain their own wallets without sending them a phishing link.
They uploaded YouTube tutorials showing people how to build an AI crypto trading bot with Claude.
People followed the tutorial themselves.
Copied the code.
Deployed the smart contract themselves.
Funded it from their own wallets.
And approved every transaction themselves.
Except the “trading bot” had no trading logic.
It was built to send their ETH straight to the scammers.
224 wallets lost 274.6 ETH, worth about $517,000 when it was stolen.
The median victim lost 1 ETH.
Some victims even got an error after getting drained telling them to deposit another 50% to fix the bot.
They literally got people to build, fund and approve their own wallet drainer.

You can now add and replace multiple contracts, up to 7, from the update modal.
This means one dapp can talk to several contracts at once, like a token and a staking contract working together. And when you redeploy or update a contract, you can swap it in without starting over.

Remix v2.5.4 is out. This release adds more open LLMs to Remix, plus a new Auto Mode that picks the best model for whatever task RemixAI is running. You can also bring your own @OpenRouter or AWS Bedrock API key to run on your native AI credits instead of your RemixAI credits.
