Spent last night at Baseline Community + Fund’s amazing space in Dublin, listening to @EamonLeonard and @seanmullaney break down what it actually takes to raise. A few things every founder should hear: 🎯 The first meeting does not need a deck. Tell the story. Keep slides for the questions that actually need them. 📈 Market size is the filter. VCs need massive outcomes to make their fund math work, so the real question is: is this a billion-dollar market? ⚙️ Treat fundraising as its own job. Build when you are building. Raise when you are raising. Map funds by cheque size, stage, and whether they have backed companies that look like yours, then push for warm intros. 🚫 Rejection is just part of the job. Don't dwell on the "why." Keep the energy up and move on. 💰 Raise less than you think you need, and keep early-stage forecasts simple - clarity beats complexity. 🚩 Bring in an advisor who's raised before. They'll spot red flags you might miss yourself. 🗣️ Talk to more customers than feels necessary. The clarity you get is worth more than any spreadsheet.
