European news and opinion from a Christian perspective. Since 2015. Celebrating 11 years in 2026 🥳

When hopes based on economic well-being, family or mental health are swept away by the current global storm, evangelicals in Europe must be able to cast the anchor of the Gospel, says Zimbabwean pastor Goodwill Shana. evangelicalfocus.com/europe/…

Dear son, things don’t go as we’d like. The match gets called off because of rain, we miss the train, the car breaks down, we fall ill and miss out on a party, important documents go missing, or we forget an appointment. By Edith Vilamajó: evangelicalfocus.com/letters…

🫂📖 🇦🇱 Golem, a Mediterranean town in Albania, will host ‘Hope for Europe’ 2026 from 5 to 9 October. The European Evangelical Alliance (EEA) is organising the conference to “listen” to Christians from across the continent in “times of uncertainty”. Around 250 evangelical leaders involved in projects of all kinds (ranging from disability support to theological, missionary or work with vulnerable people) will join leaders from national Evangelical Alliances across Europe, who will hold their annual general assembly during the conference in Albania. All Evangelical Focus news and opinion, on your WhatsApp VUSH, the Evangelical Alliance of Albania, will host the gathering, which Connie Duarte, co-general secretary of the EEA, describes as an opportunity to collaborate by drawing on each participant’s experience and strengths. “What excites me most is being in a room with leaders from across Europe talking and listening together”, she told Evangelical Focus in the days leading up to the event, whilst transport and logistical details were being finalised. The aim should be “to discern where and how we can work best together for the sake of the Gospel and the kingdom of God”. When asked for a prayer request for these days in Albania, Connie Duarte shared: “I would ask people to pray for listening ears – to hear what others are saying and to hear what God is saying, and then to be quick to obey”. Evangelical Focus has previously reported on events at ‘Hope for Europe’ in 2022 in Serbia and in 2018 in Estonia. Demonstrations are planned.  Pax Christi is using irony to express its opposition: “We congratulate the world’s largest peace movement,” it writes, “with 3.5 million combat-ready members and a budget of 1.5 trillion dollars.” By Johannes Reimer: evangelicalfocus.com/europea…

🏘️🧑🏼‍⚖️📉 By Marcos Zapata: The image of Maricarmen, aged 87, being carried out on a stretcher from the house in Madrid where she had lived for 71 years is difficult to look at without asking questions. From a biblical perspective, a house is never just a few square metres. It is a home; it is security; it is family and a sense of belonging; it is memories and remembrance… it is the place where children are brought up, where the elderly are cared for, where strangers are welcomed, where meals are shared, and where people build a significant part of their lives. That is why it is significant that one of the great aspirations for peace in the Old Testament is described precisely in this way: “Everyone will sit under their own vine and fig tree, and no one will make them afraid” (Micah 4:4). The biblical image of a reconciled society includes a safe place where people can live without fear. When a family spends a disproportionate share of its income on rent, when a young person with a job cannot become independent, when a mother fears each month that she will be unable to pay her rent, or when an elderly person ends up being evicted from the home where they have spent their whole life, we are not merely facing a housing problem. We are facing a human problem. Read full story: 🖥️ evangelicalfocus.com #Eviction #MariCarmen #Bible #Justice #HousingCrisis

The Bible is clear that the Christian question regarding housing can never be solely: ‘How much can I get for this property?’ But also: ‘What responsibility do I have before God towards the person who needs to live in it?’ By Marcos Zapata: evangelicalfocus.com/europea…
