IELTS reading has no transfer time.
on the paper test, listening gives you 10 extra minutes at the end to copy answers onto the answer sheet. reading doesn't. the 60 minutes includes writing them on the sheet.
so write reading answers straight onto the sheet as you go.
IELTS listening plays each recording once. no replays
so the real skill is reading ahead. before each section you get time to look at the questions. use it to guess what fits each gap: a number? a name? a place?
when you know what you're listening for, you catch it
IELTS listening and reading are marked right or wrong. no half marks
so a correct answer still scores 0 if:
- one letter is misspelled
- it breaks the word limit. "NO MORE THAN TWO WORDS" + a 3-word answer = wrong
british or american spelling both count. colour/color is fine
IELTS speaking part 2: 1 minute to prep, up to 2 minutes to talk
use the minute for 4-5 keywords, not full sentences. you won't read sentences out anyway
and if the examiner stops you at 2 minutes, that's normal, not a bad sign. running dry at 40 seconds is the bigger problem

IELTS reading: 60 minutes, 40 questions, no extra transfer time
that's 90 seconds per question, and reading the passage comes out of that too
a lot of people don't lose marks on english. they lose them to the clock
IELTS writing task 2 is worth twice as much as task 1
so: 40 minutes on task 2, 20 on task 1
a lot of people do task 1 first, polish it for 30 minutes, then rush the one that counts double
paper IELTS listening: 10 minutes at the end to transfer answers
computer IELTS listening: 2
loads of people practise on paper, then sit the computer test and run out of time at the very end
practise the version you're actually booked for
