Congrats to the newly promoted 81 FDNY members!
The FDNY promoted members on Thursday at a ceremony at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Staten Island, welcoming members into leadership and promoting members to higher ranks.
"Some of you are already officers moving on to the next rank with years of experience leading others. Many of you are taking the first step to lieutenant and starting your climb," Chief of Department John Esposito said. "Whether it is your first promotion or your fourth or fifth, leadership is more than a rank or a title. It is a responsibility every time you start a tour to make sure that your members are prepared and to do everything in your power to make sure that every member makes it home safely."
The group included promotions to the following ranks: Deputy Assistant Chief, Deputy Chief, Battalion Chief, Captain, Supervising Fire Marshal, Lieutenant and Marine Engineer.
The promoted members will be assigned to units across New York City.

The FDNY Foundation hosted its annual dinner Thursday night at the Fire Academy on Randall's Island. During the dinner, the Foundation recognized David Solomon, chairman and CEO of Goldman Sachs New York, as the Fire Commissioner's Humanitarian of the Year.
The FDNY Service Recognition Award recipients included Lieutenant Patrick T. Donlon, Paramedic Naytasha Doyle and Probationary Firefighter Paul Saladis III for their lifesaving work in the field. Lieutenant Willie Bedoya, of the FDNY Mobile CPR Training Unit, was recognized for helping to successfully launch the Department's "Control the Bleed" program that provides bystanders with the skills and knowledge needed to respond when faced with life-threatening bleeding.
Additionally, the FDNY Fire Academy was recognized as it celebrates 50 years since the first graduating class of probationary firefighters in 1976.
The annual event brings together business partners and community leaders to support the lifesaving mission of the FDNY Foundation. The Foundation, which is the official nonprofit organization of the FDNY, raises critical funds to provide training and equipment for our members and it also helps to expand fire and life safety education for all New Yorkers.
