Over 100 security-report emails received in September already - and we’re only halfway through the month. The chart is noisy, but the security workload has grown substantially. If you’re a large company relying on FFmpeg please donate ffmpeg.org/donations.html

3/4 Performance & tooling: ProRes decoding is ~34% faster in a single-threaded 4K 422 HQ benchmark, RISC-V gained an RVV FDCT (~3.29x on SG2044), and MSVC builds got faster and fixed stdatomic emulation and sanitizer support with a new dependency-generation wrapper.

4/4 Lots of fixes landed too, including sftp:// now verifies the server host key by default (see -verify 0), and GPU, codec and threading fixes. One thing we’d like to grow next: more FATE/CI coverage on real GPU hardware. Hardware, testing and CI contributions are very welcome!

Some people noticed that the FFmpeg 9.0 release was missing a few commits compared to the n9.0 tag on the release/9.0 branch. Here's what happened:

We forgot to update one script, which was building releases from that (now) mirror. But things where still fine. But recently the mirror had stopped updating, and we hadn't noticed.

As a result, the FFmpeg 9.0 release is missing a few commits that are present in the n9.0 tag. We'll publish FFmpeg 9.0.1 shortly, containing those commits as well as subsequent fixes from the release/9.0 branch.
