Yesterday, @FLSecofCommerce J. Alex Kelly spoke at the Florida Workforce Development Summit Workforce Awards Luncheon joining @CareerSourceFL President and CEO Adrienne Johnston. Secretary Kelly discussed Florida’s position as one of the strongest economies in the world and the unique resources our state has to help businesses and Floridians succeed. He also highlighted Florida’s major economic wins of 2026 including reaching a record labor force of more than 11.1 million Floridians, and the $40 million awarded to Florida by U.S. DOL for the Pay-for-Performance Apprenticeship Grant Program to expand registered apprenticeships in Shipbuilding, Aerospace and Aviation, Defense, Advanced Manufacturing, and other related trades.

Yesterday, @FLSecofCommerce J. Alex Kelly joined @phscedu President Eric Hall to tour the Wilton Simpson Science and Innovation Center, highlighting the Unmanned Vehicle Systems Operations facility. During the visit, he met with aviation instructors and students training for careers in key Florida industries like advanced manufacturing, aerospace and aviation. The Center serves as a hub for technical innovation to prepare students for roles including sensor operators, mission planners and ground technicians. Secretary Kelly also toured the future site of the college's Airplane and Powerplant (A&P) training program in Brooksville, which was supported by a $3 million Florida Job Growth Grant Fund award given to Pasco-Hernando State College earlier this year to support Florida's talent pipeline.

Earlier today, @FLSecofCommerce J. Alex Kelly joined the @EconClubFL at Florida State University in Tallahassee for their monthly luncheon. Speaking to Florida’s economic strength, ready infrastructure platforms, and opportunities for investment, he highlighted Florida’s Target Industries including AgTech, Maritime, Manufacturing, Aerospace and Aviation. Under Governor DeSantis’ leadership, Florida has continued to make strategic investments in Florida’s talent, infrastructure and financial readiness and the quality of life that has made Florida the best place to live, work and do business.

In 2022, while some cities were reaping the disastrous results of “defund the police” experiments, I signed landmark legislation to strengthen law enforcement recruitment and retention in Florida. In the four years since, we have awarded nearly 12,500 bonuses totaling more than $83 million to our law enforcement officers. We have also made record-breaking investments in officer pay, benefits, training, and protections for the men and women who put their lives on the line to protect the people of our state. We continue to build on this foundation to keep Florida the most law enforcement-friendly state in the country. Today, I was proud to welcome new officers in Pasco County with $5,000 after-tax recruitment bonuses. Including these 38 new hires in Pasco, there are 1,500 new law enforcement officers throughout our state receiving recruitment bonus checks this week, totaling more than $10 million. Thank you to all who wear the badge and work hard every day to keep our communities safe.

Meet @FLACommerce new Gubernatorial Fellow, Christopher Lynch!   Christopher is pursuing a M.S. in Political Science from Florida State University, where he also earned his B.S. in Economics. Before joining the team at FloridaCommerce, Christopher interned with the Florida Department of Government Efficiency and the Office of Senate President Albritton—pursing his interests in tax policy and government effiency.   The @FloridaFellows Program was created from the belief that the best way to ensure Florida’s greatness is to actively educate and cultivate its future leaders. Last week, @FLACommerce leadership hosted the Fall 2026 Rural Economic Development Initiative (REDI) Meeting in Taylor County at @BBTCPerry, the event brought together state agencies, including @MyFDOT and @FLDEPNews, and local partners to strengthen economic opportunities in Florida’s rural communities. With a primary focus on dredging, the event featured speakers from Coastal Engineering Consultants and the US Army Corps of Engineers.
