The real value of
#AI in trade is not the technology itself, but what it can help businesses do faster, better, and at lower cost.
That is the idea behind ConnectAmericas,
@the_IDB’s digital business platform connecting companies across Latin America and the Caribbean with buyers, suppliers, partners, investors, and knowledge from around the world.
We are honored that the
@wto feature ConnectAmericas as a case study on the use of AI for trade, highlighting Ada, our AI-powered matchmaking tool developed in collaboration with Microsoft’s AI for Good Lab.
For many MSMEs, finding the right international business partner remains costly and time-consuming. Ada changes that equation by allowing companies to describe what they need in natural language and receive a shortlist of relevant, verified potential partners within minutes.
The results are encouraging. ConnectAmericas now brings together more than 280,000 registered companies, while Ada has helped reduce the time from a matchmaking request to a first potential contact to just a few minutes. Emerging research is also helping us better understand how AI-enabled business discovery can translate into greater market access and export opportunities.
This is exactly where we see the opportunity for
#AI,
#Trade and
#Innovation to come together: using technology to reduce information barriers, make internationalization more accessible, and help smaller firms participate more effectively in global markets.
At the IDB, we will continue building on ConnectAmericas and working with partners to turn technology into practical tools that help firms connect, grow, and trade.
