Florida AG James Uthmeier and Gov. Ron DeSantis announced 20 people charged with illegally voting in Florida elections, including the 2024 General Election.

One of President Donald Trump’s major focuses has been rooting out fraud across taxpayer-funded public services. Through their White House Task Force to Eliminate Fraud, Co-chairs Vice President JD Vance and Federal Trade Commission Chair Andrew Ferguson have touted unprecedented efforts to expose and crack down on massive instances of fraud since February 2026.
Yet, despite the national implications and scope of Trump, Vance and Ferguson’s campaign against fraud, Google News implemented a months-long blackout of coverage of their key actions and accomplishments in its morning feed. Put into practice, the blackout means that millions of active Google News users are effectively kept in the dark about the White House’s actions against fraud.
The Trump administration has taken at least 51 key actions and victories against fraud since February, ranging from massive healthcare fraud takedowns to the suspension of billions of dollars in government funding. Yet, Google News featured none of them in its top 20 morning listings.
Media Research Center President David Bozell criticized the aggressive blackout during an exclusive interview with the Washington Examiner on Thursday morning.
“Between February and August, major news outlets published more than 257 stories on these multi-billion-dollar crackdowns. Yet not one appeared in Google News’ top morning feed. That’s 257 stories available to Google and 257 stories its users never saw there.”
Bozell added: “A 257-to-0 blackout isn’t a minor editorial quirk. Google owes its users an explanation for how a news platform with this much power managed to miss every single one.”
MRC’s Findings:
- Google News featured none of the 51 key anti-fraud actions and victories among the headlines in its top 20 listings promoted each morning, leaving news of the Trump administration’s anti-fraud efforts absent from its feed.
- The 51 key events included the largest healthcare fraud takedown in history, the suspension of billions of dollars in Medicaid and healthcare funding and the removal of more than 1,000 California hospices from Medicare.
- Google News’ complete blackout appears intentional, as the news aggregator had plenty of coverage to choose from, including no fewer than 257 total stories, with at least 46 from the top 10 national and international outlets it repeatedly promotes, and an additional 204 from other AllSides-rated left-leaning, right-leaning, center and unrated outlets.
Inside Google News’ Blockade of the Trump Administration’s Anti-Fraud Efforts
MRC reviewed the top 20 stories Google News promoted in its morning feed from Feb. 25 through Aug. 31, 2026, comparing those listings with 51 key anti-fraud actions and victories. The White House identified the 51 events in an Aug. 6 release, covering key task force actions and accomplishments from Feb. 25 through Aug. 4.
Despite months of task force activity, Google News featured none of the 51 key actions and victories in its top 20 morning listings.
Google News’ effective blockade of key White House anti-fraud actions and victories was significant, particularly as the task force has led what it touts as the largest healthcare fraud takedown in the nation’s history. Through its actions, the task force suspended billions of dollars in Medicaid and healthcare funding, removed more than 1,000 California hospices from Medicare, prosecuted hundreds of individuals and more. Yet none of those actions made the top 20 morning feed on Google News.
What Google News Is Blocking Its Users from Seeing
On its website, the White House said its Task Force to Eliminate Fraud has uncovered “nearly $230 billion” in fraud, blocked $56 billion in alleged fraudulent payments from reaching alleged criminals, and enforced more than $55 billion through federal indictments, settlements, and civil penalties.
Some of the 51 key events include unprecedented enforcement measures, including what has been called the largest health care fraud takedown in history, the “highest loss amount ever charged in a Medicaid case” in Minnesota and “the largest autism fraud scheme ever prosecuted” in the state.
The list documents 51 fraud-related enforcement actions and accomplishments by the Trump administration and federal authorities from February through August 2026, spanning health care, Medicaid, Medicare, pandemic loans, immigration programs, SNAP, housing, student aid and other government programs. For instance, in June the DOJ announced charges against 455 defendants across 45 states and territories in connection with more than $6.5 billion in alleged fraud. The DOJ boasted of the charges as the “largest such takedown in history.” Also in June, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services forced the disenrollment of nearly 60% of Minnesota’s Medicaid providers for failing to comply with newly implemented anti-fraud standards.
In April, the Small Business Administration referred 562,000 allegedly “fraudulent” or “delinquent” pandemic-era loans for “aggressive collection,” totalling $22 billion, according to the White House. That same month, the Task Force uncovered $6.3 billion in what the White House described as “suspected fraudulent” government contracts.

- March 30, 2026: The Trump Administration launched a new national fraud whistleblower program empowering everyday Americans to expose waste and abuse.
- April 2, 2026: The Trump Administration suspended hundreds of additional high-risk hospice and home health providers across California.
- April 3, 2026: Federal prosecutors charged more than a dozen individuals in a $50 million hospice fraud scheme.
- April 7, 2026: The Department of Justice secured a guilty plea from a California fraudster accused of submitting $270 million in false reimbursement claims.
- April 8, 2026: The Department of Justice confirmed it has 8,000 active, ongoing fraud cases.
- April 8, 2026: The Task Force uncovered $6.3 billion in suspected fraudulent government contracts and immediately launched a sweeping investigation.
- April 15, 2026: The Trump Administration suspended 447 hospices and 23 home health agencies in Los Angeles, with estimated fraud exceeding $600 million.
- April 16, 2026: The Trump Administration served criminal warrants and administrative charges on 20 Minnesota businesses suspected of SNAP fraud.

Was Google News’ Blockade of the White House’s Actions and Victories Intentional? Google News’ blockade continued throughout the six-month review, with the tech giant skipping over hundreds of news reports from both left-leaning, center and right-leaning outlets covering the anti-fraud developments.
In fact, MRC found that the same national and international outlets Google News repeatedly promoted, including Al Jazeera, BBC, CBS News, CNN, NBC News, NPR, The Associated Press, The Guardian, The New York Times and The Washington Post, had dedicated coverage of most of the White House’s anti-fraud actions, eliminating the argument that Google News failed to promote them because the outlets did not cover them.
Below are some headlines that Google News could have picked up from outlets it repeatedly promotes but chose not to:
- “Trump administration defers $91M more in Minnesota Medicaid funding citing fraud vulnerabilities,” by The Associated Press, published April 30.
