On December 6, U.S. equities take their biggest step yet toward an always-on market. Nasdaq will introduce a new trading session from 9:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. ET — creating 23/5 trading: 23 hours of continuous markets, five days a week. 🧵

Nasdaq will run the Night Session (9pm-4am ET) on its existing trading systems via a distinct instance, using dedicated ports and protocols OUCH 5, Core FIX, and FIX for order entry. Overnight market data uses a separate ITCH feed. Key enablers are extended SIP hours (Nasdaq processes Tape C) for real-time consolidated quotes/trades, plus TRF reporting and DTCC clearing. A 1-hour pause handles maintenance. It's an extension of proven infrastructure, not new tech.
