Gameweek 12 - Defender thread
With no standout DEF options this week in #FantasyEFL, I have had a deep look at the data to try and identify any potential standouts!
Let's get into it!
#FEFL
2) "Boom or bust" picks
Depending on your risk appetite these could be the picks for you! They have a higher chance of an attacking return (still would be an unlikely outcome), however the real con is the floor of 4 or 5 points with no clean sheet or attacking return.
3) Caleb Taylor
The data loves Caleb Taylor this week! He is the only pick I like who has both the bonus floor and fixtures for an attacking return this week.
The only downside is that BIR (A) fixture which has a lower chance of a clean sheet but no asset is perfect this week!
GW10 best floor MIDs
Just a short one for me this week.
I've defined floor mids as points removing goal (also the sot point for the goal) and assist points.
So let's see which players have the highest baseline without attacking returns!
#FantasyEFL
1) Jack Thomson (SWI) - 6.2 pts per 90
2) Kamil Conteh (BRO) - 5.5 pts per 90
3) Jordan Brown (BPL) - 4.9 pts per 90
4) Oli Norwood (STP) - 4.8 pts per 90
5) Joe White (CRE) - 4.7 pts per 90
It is important to understand this is without attacking returns so if Norwood gets a pen, he will outscore everyone on this list.
That being said, there is a clear king for floor MIDs this week in Jack Thomson who if he plays 180 should score around 12 points minimum.
DGW9 Double Defences 🛡️
These are my two favourite defensive pairings for the upcoming GW.
Bristol City 🔴🐦
-3rd for set piece xG
-Opponents 22nd + 24th for npxG
Wrexham 🏴🐉
-Derby top for set piece xG conceded
-Opponents 19th + 20th for npxG

The OPTA Delay Paradox
In #FEFL, there is a 12 hour deadline after a match finishes to allow for OPTA stat corrections, which are designed to ensure that all data changes are captured.
However, this is not the case and it has a massive impact on #FantasyEFL.
Let's explore....
These may seem like small point swings in isolation, but across seven players per week they compound over a season. In extreme cases, this could create a 100+ point difference, potentially the difference between winning a season ticket and not.
This also creates issues when predicting and modelling bonuses in L1 and L2, especially when using the FEFL API. These models are effectively using inaccurate data to predict inaccurate outcomes.
I'd take extreme caution interpreting any xPts models you see!
