3030 Days Clean and Sober
Today I am Grateful for... The Robert Alexander Center For Recovery and everyone who helped me grow.
Today is my last day at RAC, and I’m already emotional before I even get there.
These last three years have been amazing. They’ve challenged me, changed me, taught me, and helped me grow in ways I probably won’t fully understand until I have some distance from them.
Today, I’m grateful for every single person I’ve had the opportunity to work beside. I’m grateful for the friendships, the conversations, the laughter, the ridiculously long nights, the hard days, the lessons, and even the moments that tested every ounce of patience I had.
I’m grateful for every client who walked through those doors and trusted us to be part of their story. Some stayed for a while. Some were only in our lives for a moment. But every one of them reminded me why this work matters.
Sometimes when you’re in the middle of life, you don’t realize how quickly a chapter is passing. You assume there will always be another shift, another conversation, another laugh, another chance to tell somebody what they meant to you.
Then suddenly, it’s the last day.
So today, more than anything, I’m grateful for you guys.
Thank you for being part of my life. Thank you for being part of my story, my journey, and my growth. I genuinely love each and every one of you, and I will carry pieces of these last three years with me wherever I go.
This isn’t the end of my story. It’s simply the end of a chapter and the beginning of a new one. And I hope every one of you finds your way into the chapters that come next.
My story isn’t over yet.
And today, I make another commitment.
For a long time, I trained myself to believe that when I started feeling a certain type of way and I didn’t want to feel that way anymore, I could put something in me. That was the quickest way I knew to stop feeling.
But I don’t live that way anymore.
Today is going to hurt a little. I’m going to laugh. I’m probably going to cry. I’m going to hug people I love and walk away from a place that has been a huge part of my life for three years.
And I’m going to feel every damn bit of it.
I don’t need to numb it. I don’t need to run from it. I don’t need to change the way I feel.
These emotions are here because these people mattered. This place mattered. This chapter mattered.
So my commitment today is simple:
I will remain clean and sober through every emotion this day brings. I will allow myself to feel all of it, because today I don’t have to escape my life. I get to live it.
Today, I am grateful for the people who helped me become the person walking into this next chapter.
And I’m grateful that today, I get to walk into it clean and sober.
