12 states are now suing to block Paramount’s $81 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery. The coalition, led by California, is aiming to do what the federal government would not. “The unlawful merger of these two entertainment behemoths would lead to higher prices, lower quality, and less content for film and television, harming movie theaters, basic cable distributors, and ultimately, audiences on every sofa and movie theater seat in the US,” according to California AG Rob Bonta. Paramount is now threatening to leave California over the lawsuit. wsj.com/business/media/calif…

We're suing to block the @ParamountPics merger with @warnerbros.   This merger would create a massive company with unprecedented power and influence across the globe, raising costs for consumers and putting jobs at risk.

⁨A Paramount-Warner Bros. megamerger would mean higher costs and fewer choices for Americans. Good news: the states are stepping up to BLOCK this antitrust nightmare. This fight isn't over.
A coalition of 12 states filed an antitrust lawsuit to block the Paramount Skydance and Warner Bros. merger, despite the Department of Justice approving the deal last month. The coalition, led by California Attorney General Rob Bonta, alleges that the $111 billion transaction violates the Clayton Act by lessening competition in three distinct markets: wide-release theatrical distribution, “top-grossing” theatrical distribution, and basic cable licensing. variety.com/2026/film/news/p…

It’s amazing what a group of committed passionate people can do. For all you who signed onto the letters, film makers and journalists, and kept pushing, speaking to the AGs and sharing your stories…Thank you. They said it was inevitable, it’s not. When we fight we win. Capitulation is not an option. nytimes.com/2026/07/12/busin…

Proud that New York is one of 12 states suing to stop Paramount's acquisition of Warner Bros. This is not a merger that serves the public. It would hand one company nearly a third of the movies and cable channels Americans watch, raise prices for streaming and cable, endanger the livelihoods of thousands of New York artists and entertainment workers, and threaten to shutter theaters across our city. New York's workers helped build this industry. They should not be sacrificed for the sake of further corporate consolidation.

Bruce Springsteen appeared on Stephen Colbert’s show tonight and COOKED Trump and his goons “I’m here in support tonight for Stephen, because you are the first guy in America who lost his show because we got a president who can't take a joke…. and because Larry and David Ellison feel they need to kiss his ass to get what they want. Stephen, these are small minded people. They got no idea what the freedoms of this beautiful country are supposed to be about”

Mark, I hear you. I’m in conversation with my AG colleagues about Paramount/Warner Bros. As the epicenter of the entertainment industry, California has a special interest in protecting competition.
