If people are attempting to interfere with Danielle’s volunteers by harassing or intimidating them while they lawfully collect signatures, we are going to document it. 🚨 DEFERRED DOES NOT MEAN DEAD — PRO & FAIR UPDATE Neither the PRO Ordinance nor the FAIR Ordinance passed the Chicago City Council yesterday, September 23. BOTH WERE DEFERRED. But Chicago Flips Red has been pointing out from the beginning that this conversation is much bigger than “protecting renters.” Why does the City need another rental registry when it already has property records, building-code enforcement, inspections, ownership information and existing landlord-tenant laws? Why should Chicago property owners potentially be required to pay another annual per-unit registration fee? Why create another layer of bureaucracy and enforcement before we hold City Hall accountable for how it uses the authority it ALREADY HAS? And what happens to the small property owners—the seniors, families and people with two-flats and three-flats—who are already dealing with property taxes, insurance, repairs and the cost of maintaining their buildings? Then there’s the question CFR keeps asking: Will politically connected developers and publicly funded developments be held to the SAME standards as ordinary Chicago property owners? We’ve already raised questions about publicly funded housing projects such as Earle Residences and the reported plumbing problems shortly after opening. A student said he took her into a room for stretching/jumping, held his phone, and a flash went off. She reported it immediately. Phone forensics found images and videos. Prosecutors say multiple minor victims. Placed on leave the same day. District pursuing termination. This is why parents demand schools actually protect kids. That doesn’t mean every one of those children was sleeping on the street. CPS includes students living in shelters, hotels or motels, cars and public spaces, as well as families doubled-up with other people because they lost housing or couldn’t afford their own. But the number is still staggering: 22,438 CPS STUDENTS WITHOUT STABLE HOUSING. Now Chicago is heading into major 2026 school board elections. Money is pouring into these races. Ahern reports Richardson-Lowry joins 11 other key members of Mayor Brandon Johnson’s staff who have left since January, including one who was fired. Richardson-Lowry has served as the City’s Corporation Counsel since 2023. And this is happening while Chicago is staring at a projected $882.4 MILLION 2027 budget deficit, City Council is dealing with major financial decisions, and taxpayers are asking serious questions about where the money is going.
