A surrogate, believing she was carrying a child for a single father, is actually having a baby for a Chinese billionaire who allegedly has more than 100 kids. CBS News broke the news to her.
Leaked documents obtained by CBS News named the intended father as Xu Bo, a Chinese billionaire and video game executive. Xu Bo has been reported to have over 100 children through U.S. surrogates, granting them American citizenship at birth. A former partner involved in a custody lawsuit against Xu Bo claims he has as many as 300 children. He has disputed these numbers, and has said in a statement that he has custody of 12 children born through surrogacy in the U.S.
CBS News' @KatrinaSari interviewed the surrogate – who we are referring to as "Judy" to keep her identity private – who said she was blindsided to learn about Xu Bo. CBS News spoke to 32 surrogates for an investigation into the industry. Head to the linked article for more on this investigation.

Redshirting - the act of holding your kids back in kindergarten to help them get an edge - is becoming so common, there are now classrooms where students have up to two year age gaps.
“He was still growing in my uterus and his classmates were walking and talking,” said one mom, who despite social pressure, didn't redshirt her boys. "People will do anything to get an edge." But she questions, "Should I have succumbed to the masses?"

Our art director just informed me that Tom Thompson, the great photographer we hired (for our story about people being unnecessarily trapped in King Cove) has himself been unnecessarily trapped in King Cove for the past two days. He lives 18 miles away in the town they are trying to build the road to and can’t fly home because the weather is bad. (We are paying for his hotel, obviously). Insane.
For 3 years I’ve been following the plight of residents living in King Cove, Alaska, a remote town in the Aleutians where people keep dying in plane crashes and medical emergencies because faraway environmentalists and others concerned about the goose population will not let them build a road to an all weather airport located just 18 miles away, in the next town over. They’ve been fighting for 40+ years and have just been stymied again.
It’s a complicated story.
But:
“Underneath all the legalese, the history, and the details is a single ugly question, one that perhaps should never have been asked: How many geese is a human life worth?”
