2026 INDEPENDENCE DAY ADDRESS: FROM REFORMS TO PROSPERITY My fellow Nigerians, Sixty-six years ago today, our flag was raised, for the first time, over a free and sovereign nation. Since then, we have journeyed together as one nation, bound by our collective trust in the great promise of Nigeria: that a country of our size, our bountiful resources, our cultural diversity and, above all, our extraordinary people can build a giant in Africa; that in this blessed and fertile land we can build a united, strong and prosperous nation; a land of regional authority and global consequence. Our journey has not always been easy. In truth, it has generally been too hard for too many. We have known moments of great hope and periods of profound disappointment. We have endured war, military rule, economic crises, insecurity and political upheaval. Yet through it all, Nigeria, with the indomitable spirit of its people, has endured. It has endured through the efforts of the farmer who rises before dawn to work his land. The trader who opens her shop each morning, hopeful for a productive day. The teacher who believes in the children entrusted to her care and the young entrepreneur who refuses to surrender ambition to circumstance. We are grateful for the men and women of our Armed Forces and security services who place themselves in harm's way so that the rest of us may live in peace. Through every difficulty, generations of Nigerians have continued to believe in one thing: that this country of ours will be better. This faith, which sustains us all, is the inheritance of independence. Our founding fathers did not struggle merely for a flag, an anthem or a place among the nations of the world. Independence carried a larger promise: that Nigerians would have the freedom to shape their own destiny and build a nation capable of providing opportunity, dignity and a better life for its people. Sixty-six years later, Almighty God has made it our responsibility to deliver that promise. Today, as we celebrate our independence, we must speak honestly about the journey so far, the choices we made, and the country we are determined to build from here. For too long, the promise of Nigeria was undermined by choices that postponed difficult decisions and allowed deep economic distortions to grow. By 2023, poverty was rising, and hope was nearly gone. The country's situation was darker than ever. We had no choice but to act. Nigeria was like a sick patient who receives the terrible news that he has cancer. His doctor explains that the treatment will be difficult and painful, but that it offers a strong prospect of recovery. The patient has a choice. He can begin treatment, endure its discomfort and fight the disease. Or he can ask only for morphine, dull the pain and leave the cancer to spread. For too long, Nigeria's leaders chose morphine while praying for a miracle that never came. They focused on symptoms while allowing the disease to take hold deep within the fabric of our society. We spent enormous sums sustaining inefficient arrangements that were never intended to last. We hid from difficult truths and passed the consequences from one generation to the next. When this Administration assumed office, we resolved to do things differently. We chose to excise the cancer. The reforms that followed were difficult. The side effects were real. Yet, we must never confuse the medicine with the disease. Our reforms did not create the weaknesses in our economy. They confronted them. Now, as certain influential but regressive voices would have us abandon the treatment and return ourselves to the abuse of addictive subsidies, we must resist their siren song. We must remember why we began this journey and how far we have already come.

STATEHOUSE PRESS RELEASE TINUBU WELCOMES $12 MILLION ABUJA ENTREPRENEURSHIP CENTRE TO STRENGTHEN NIGERIA’S MSME ECOSYSTEM President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has welcomed the construction of the $12 million Abuja Centre for Entrepreneurship, saying the project will strengthen Nigeria’s MSME ecosystem and help more businesses grow, create jobs and expand economic activity. The Centre, funded by the Republic of Korea through the Korea International Cooperation Agency, KOICA, is being developed at the SMEDAN Industrial Development Centre in Idu, Abuja, in partnership with the Federal Government through SMEDAN and the United Nations Development Programme. ACE will support the wider MSME and entrepreneurship ecosystem, providing facilities, technology, training and enterprise support for aspiring entrepreneurs, start-ups and growing businesses, with an initial target of 500 entrepreneurs, 400 start-ups and 1,500 MSMEs. About $5.9 million will go into construction, while $6.1 million will fund equipment and programmes for entrepreneurs and businesses. President Tinubu said the Centre's would help in establishing, strengthening and growing businesses “Small businesses are an important part of our economy. They employ people, support families and create activity in communities across the country. “Many entrepreneurs already have the ideas and the determination to succeed. What they often need is better access to facilities, technology, training and the support that can help their businesses grow. “This Centre will provide more of that support and strengthen the ecosystem around them,” the President said. ACE will provide workspaces, digital facilities, training, incubation and enterprise support for entrepreneurs, start-ups and growing businesses. It will serve businesses in Abuja and surrounding cities, including Kaduna, Jos, Keffi, Lafia, Minna, Makurdi and Lokoja, while contributing to a stronger entrepreneurship and MSME ecosystem across Northern Nigeria. President Tinubu said the Federal Government would continue to expand the conditions that allow small businesses to grow and compete. “We want more Nigerians to be able to start businesses, grow them and employ others. “We also want existing small businesses to have better access to the tools and support they need to become stronger and more productive. “That is important for jobs, incomes and the wider economy,” he said. The President said the project complements the administration’s wider investments in digital skills, entrepreneurship, enterprise development and support for MSMEs. The Centre has also been designed to accommodate women and persons with disabilities. It will include accessible facilities and crèche services for women with young children. While construction is ongoing, SMEDAN, KOICA and UNDP will work with universities, incubators, financial institutions, private-sector organisations and entrepreneur networks to build a wider support system around the Centre and identify businesses that can benefit from its programmes. President Tinubu thanked the Government of the Republic of Korea for the $12 million investment and commended KOICA, UNDP and SMEDAN for bringing the project to the construction stage. He said Nigeria would continue to welcome investments and partnerships that strengthen local businesses, deepen enterprise development and create more jobs. “Our economy will be stronger when more Nigerian businesses can start, survive and grow. “We must keep building the support around them and opening more opportunities for enterprise across the country,” President Tinubu said. STATEHOUSE PRESS RELEASE PRESIDENT TINUBU HAILS $800M IMA GAS FID AS NIGERIA UNLOCKS FIVE-DECADE-OLD GAS RESOURCE President Bola Ahmed Tinubu welcomes the $800 million Final Investment Decision (FID) on the Ima Gas Project, marking another major milestone in his administration’s drive to unlock Nigeria’s vast gas resources for investment, industrialisation, job creation and economic prosperity. Developed by Nigerian independent AMNI International in partnership with TotalEnergies, the Ima Gas Project is expected to produce about 300 million standard cubic feet of gas per day at peak. The Ima gas resource, located offshore in OMLs 112 and 117, was discovered in 1973 but remained undeveloped for more than five decades. Despite its significant reserves and potential as a source of feedgas for Nigeria LNG Limited, the resource remained underground and unable to contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s economy. The FID, announced on September 23, has changed this. The Ima gas project marks the fourth major gas project to reach Final Investment Decision since President Tinubu assumed office, following the Iseni, Ubeta, and HI FIDs. These FIDs reflect the growing momentum of investment in Nigeria’s gas sector and the administration’s drive to convert the country’s vast gas resources into productive projects that create jobs, generate revenues and expand economic opportunity for Nigerians President Tinubu said: “For more than fifty years, the gas beneath Ima remained a resource with enormous potential, but potential alone does not create jobs, finance businesses or improve the lives of our people. Our responsibility has been to create the conditions that turn Nigeria’s natural resources into productive investments and economic opportunities” “The Final Investment Decision on Ima demonstrates what is possible when we provide investors with a competitive, predictable and enabling environment. We are determined to unlock more of Nigeria’s gas resources to power our industries, expand our exports, create jobs and build lasting prosperity for our people.” Since assuming office, President Tinubu has prioritised reforms to reverse years of underinvestment in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry. Although the Petroleum Industry Act of 2021 laid an important foundation, several undeveloped projects lacked the fiscal and commercial conditions needed to become viable. In 2024, President Tinubu issued a series of Presidential Directives developed by the team led by the Special Adviser to the President on Energy. These directives sought to improve fiscal competitiveness, shorten contracting timelines and reduce costs. Special Adviser to the President on Energy, Ms Olu Arowolo Verheijen, said, “The story of Ima is ultimately the story of what our reforms are designed to achieve. Nigeria has never lacked resources. The challenge has been creating the commercial and investment conditions required to move those resources from beneath the ground into projects that employ Nigerians, create opportunities for Nigerian businesses, generate revenues and support economic growth.” “A gas discovery made in 1973 can only contribute to prosperity when somebody invests the capital to develop it, banks finance it, contractors build it, Nigerians work on it, and the gas is ultimately put to productive use. That is the transition we are seeing today.” The project also demonstrates the growing depth of Nigerian participation across the energy value chain. AMNI International, a Nigerian-owned exploration and production company, holds a majority interest in the asset, illustrating the increasing capacity of indigenous companies to participate in and lead increasingly significant developments in Nigeria’s upstream sector. Nigerian financial institutions have arranged 77 per cent of the project’s financing, with around 60 per cent of the project workforce expected to come from host communities, including Bonny, Finima and Andoni in Rivers State.

For decades, Nigeria has had one of Africa’s largest gas resource bases, yet significant volumes have remained undeveloped. The Tinubu administration’s gas strategy therefore focuses not simply on producing more gas, but on putting that gas to work: supporting LNG exports and foreign exchange earnings, providing feedstock for industry, enabling fertiliser and petrochemical production, supporting a more reliable power supply, and creating new opportunities for Nigerian businesses and workers. “Natural resources have value only when they are converted into opportunities for our people,” President Tinubu said. “Our goal is to ensure that Nigeria’s gas powers Nigerian prosperity.” Bayo Onanuga Special Adviser to the President (Information and Strategy) September 23, 2026

PRESS STATEMENT PETER OBI HAS NOWHERE TO HIDE OVER HIS POOR ANAMBRA RECORD In the past four years, Mr Peter Obi and his supporters packaged Obi's tenure as Anambra governor as one defined by exceptional fiscal prudence, including the claim that he left Anambra without a debt burden. Obi himself was presented as a squeaky-clean politician. But it has all emerged as a well-packaged lie. The facade of falsehood built around Peter Obi, the NDC presidential candidate, has now been torn to shreds, with Obi's persona deconstructed after disclosures by the Anambra State Government, which responded to Obi's challenge to verify his record. According to the Anambra State Government, the former governor spent about USD 4.05 billion, or N5.4 trillion, over his eight years in office and contracted USD 123.77 million in external loans. The state also revealed that, as of when Obi left office on March 17, 2014, there were eight different external borrowings for malaria, erosion control, education, and healthcare, and that subsequent administrations, including Governor Chukwuma Soludo's, continued to service the debt. Borrowing is not injudicious if used for development. But for a man who prides himself on being austere and has frequently claimed he left the state with a clean bill of health, the revelations confirmed what has long been held: Obi is an irredeemable liar, a mediocre governor, unfit for leadership anywhere. Even more confounding is that despite these borrowings, Obi has nothing to show for his stewardship across Anambra's sectors. He failed to pay workers' salaries in some ministries. Water Corporation staff were among those who protested over unpaid salaries. In a memo to Obi, dated April 25, 2006, Chuks Ileogbunam, Obi's Chief of Staff, pleaded with the governor to pay the Water Corporation workers' N15m monthly salary to avoid protests at the Governor's office over unpaid salaries. Obi was then spending his second month in office. "Since it is your excellency's unchanging desire to achieve a better future for our children and children's children, please, Sir, bear in mind that officials of the Water Corporation also have children who are looking to your compassionate leadership. The President listens with compassion to your appeals on behalf of the children of Anambra. I am 200 per cent sure that you will hearken to the cries of the children whose parents work for the Water Corporation and end their ordeal," Ileogunam pleaded in the memo. Just as Obi promised to quit the presidential race if it was proven that he left a debt burden for Anambra State, the letter revealed that Obi had similarly promised Anambra people during his campaign that he would resign as governor "if there is any case where workers are not paid as and when due." Of course, he never meant to. He only deceived people into voting for him. When he left office in 2014, he left his successors with heavier arrears to clear. We advise Obi to purge himself of his lies and seek the forgiveness of the Anambra people instead of galloping around platforms, parroting inanities. What should even be more concerning for Obi's followers is Obi's recent solidarity visit to someone facing an EFCC trial for unexplained wealth and monumental corruption. Indeed, if Peter Obi has any honour, he must resign from the 2027 presidential race forthwith, in keeping with his promise to end his run if it is proven that his administration left behind liabilities in Anambra. Atiku Abubakar was at his evasive best on Friday, avoiding comment on his indictment in Paris by the ICC over the illegal Mambilla Hydro Power Project contract that he and former power minister Olu Agunloye awarded to Sunrise Power without authorisation from the Federal Executive Council and President Olusegun Obasanjo. According to the hearings at the Tribunal, Atiku collected a $500,000 bribe from Sunrise and Leno Adesanya, the company's CEO, to approve the contract. The money was wired in tranches to the US Citibank account of Atiku's former wife, Jennifer Douglas, triggering red flags at Citibank and appearing, among other things, in the US Senate investigation into Atiku's corruption and money laundering. The tribunal in Paris said, "There is a close connection in time between the moment the USD 500,000 payment was made to the wife of Vice-President Abubakar on 30 January 2003 and the alleged award of the BOT contract to Sunrise on 22 May 2003." A man who cares about his integrity and wants to offer himself for leadership ought to address the integrity issue first, but instead he used his so-called world Press conference to speak about his newfound campaign mantra, his pro-petrol subsidy stance. He also attacked the Tinubu administration, claiming it plans to withdraw electricity subsidies. The Power Minister, Joseph Tegbe, has already debunked that lie. But Atiku doesn't care a hoot. He must weaponise everything in his desperation for power. Atiku, the diverter-in-chief, takes Nigerians for buffoons, thinking that his crimes against the Nigerian people do not matter. Nigerians should not be deceived: Atiku does not have the people's interests at heart. He cares more about himself. Nigerians should also consider what was at stake for the public treasury if Atiku's allies succeeded in Paris. Sunrise and Leno Adesanya would have walked away in Paris with $3.38 billion, including the $680 million settlement sum and interest, plus a claim of $2.7 billion as compensation and interest associated with the non-development of the Mambilla Hydro Power project. A politician who aspires to lead Nigeria must be willing to answer questions about his integrity. Atiku should respond to the $500,000 bribe directly rather than divert public attention with unsupported allegations against the government.

We must be willing to have honest conversations with one another as Ndi Igbo. As it is, Soludo's offence is that he exposed the lies of Peter Obi with irrefutable facts. Instead of the conversation being about a former governor who lied through his teeth and the demand for accountability, it's about why Soludo is "exposing his brother". We can't make progress this way. If we must interrogate leadership, there should be no golden calf.

APC CAMPAIGN COUNCIL PRESS STATEMENT PARIS ICC ARBITRATION COURT RULING: ATIKU ABUBAKAR UNFIT FOR NIGERIA'S PRESIDENCY Atiku Abubakar, the African Democratic Congress candidate, is unfit to be President of Nigeria because he has once again proven he will compromise Nigeria’s best interests for personal, fiduciary gain. Abubakar’s legendary corruption reverberated in Paris at the International Arbitration Tribunal under the auspices of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC). Hearings in the arbitration filed by Sunrise Power and Transmission Company Ltd (Sunrise) and Leno Adesanya over the stalled 3960mw Mambila Hydroelectric Power Project in Taraba State revealed that Abubakar and former power minister Olu Agunloye worked in cahoots to sign an illegal power contract with Sunrise. The backdoor signing of the contract in the dying days of then President Olusegun Obasanjo’s first term, when Atiku wielded enormous power, put Nigeria in a serious financial peril, despite President Obasanjo’s objection and reservations at the Federal Executive Council meeting.  Atiku’s greed, however, propelled him to disobey the council and President Obasanjo, months after Leno Adesanya, through an offshore account, China Castle Investment, wired $500,000 to the US Citibank account of his now-divorced wife, Jennifer Douglas. The money arrived in tranches, raising red flags at Citibank and in the United States. The wired money and other suspicious transfers totalling $40 million surfaced in a US Senate investigation into Atiku and other corrupt leaders.  In the US Senate report titled Keeping Foreign Corruption out of the United States: Four Case Histories, Jennifer said her husband sent the money. She said she was not familiar with the offshore company that wired the money. Atiku’s treasonable act, after the Nigerian government declined to go ahead with the illegal contract, led Sunrise and Leno Adesanya to make a claim against the Federal Republic of Nigeria, demanding $680 million as a settlement sum and interest in respect of another arbitration in which it is claiming over $2.7 billion in compensation and interest relating to disputes associated with the development of the Mambilla  Hydro Power project. As the ICC Paris Tribunal concluded: "There is a close connection in time between the moment the USD 500,000 payment was made to the wife of Vice-President Abubakar on 30 January 2003 and the alleged award of the BOT contract to Sunrise on 22 May 2003." Nigeria fought valiantly to dodge this huge liability, echoing a similar attempt by another rogue company, Process and Industrial Development (P&ID), to extract an $11 billion claim from our country for a phantom gas project in Akwa Ibom that the company did not spend a dime on. By collecting a $500,000 bribe from Leno Adesanya to approve a Build-Operate-Transfer contract to a company with no scintilla of experience in hydro power generation, Atiku has proven he is one of the enablers of local and international predatory and exploitative entities out to defraud our country. At the hearing in Paris, Atiku, to avoid embarrassment, chose to stay away to give evidence in support of Sunrise and Leno Adesanya’s specious claim that the $500,000 was a foreign exchange transaction. Although the Tribunal requested Atiku’s witness statement, Adesanya shielded Atiku and Jennifer Douglas by lying. In contrast, President Olusegun Obasanjo and President Muhammadu Buhari went to Paris to defend Nigeria and help stave off a liability that our country can ill-afford to redeem in these lean times.

The disclosure in Paris once again justified President Obasanjo's scathing remarks about Atiku’s corruption in his book, My Watch. “ What I did not know”, the former Nigerian leader wrote in the second part of the book, “which came out glaringly later, was his parental background, which was somewhat shadowy, his propensity to corruption, his tendency to disloyalty, his inability to say and stick to the truth all the time, a propensity for poor judgement, his belief and reliance on marabouts, his lack of transparency, his trust in money to buy his way out on all issues and his readiness to sacrifice morality, integrity, propriety, truth and national interest for self and selfish interest.” The APC Campaign calls on Abubakar Atiku to do himself a rare honour by bowing out of the presidential race, as the $500,000 bribe is just the tip of the iceberg of the revelations to come about his monumental corruption. The people of Taraba State should also note that the ADC candidate, who plans to pull wool over our eyes and bamboozle his way to the presidency as a pro-petrol-subsidy candidate, is one of the people responsible for the stalled kick-off of what would have been the biggest hydro-power project in Nigeria, with many economic spin-offs for the people of the state. STATEHOUSE PRESS RELEASE: PRESIDENT TINUBU: THE LIFE OF EVERY NIGERIAN MATTERS, GOVERNMENT WILL NOT TOLERATE MASS DEATHS CAUSED BY OFFICIAL NEGLIGENCE President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Friday ordered a full and transparent investigation into the deaths of suspected illegal miners detained by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) following enforcement operations around Lt.Gen. Mohammed Inuwa Wushishi Estate in Minna, Niger State. President Tinubu said the life of every Nigerian matters and that no citizen should lose his life while in government custody as a result of negligence, abuse, inhumane treatment or dereliction of duty. The President expressed deep concern over the reported deaths, describing the development as a grave matter that requires urgent investigation and accountability. “While the Federal Government would continue to combat illegal mining and other criminal activities across the country, enforcement operations must be conducted strictly within the law and with full respect for the dignity and fundamental rights of every person in custody. “The fact that these individuals were suspected of illegal mining does not in any way remove their right to life, dignity and humane treatment while in government custody. Government will not tolerate mass deaths arising from official negligence, dereliction of duty or failure by public officials to protect the lives placed under their care. “Where the investigation establishes that any official, through action, abuse or negligence, contributed to these deaths, such an officer must be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law. There must be accountability,” the President said. President Tinubu directed the relevant authorities to ensure that the investigation is comprehensive, transparent and unhindered, covering the circumstances of the arrests, the condition of the detainees when they were taken into custody, the conditions under which they were detained, the number of persons held in the facility, the medical attention provided and the events leading to their deaths. “ The suspension of officers is only an administrative step and must not substitute for a proper determination of criminal responsibility where the evidence warrants prosecution”, the President said. He directed the Ministry of Interior and the NSCDC leadership to cooperate fully with all relevant investigative authorities and ensure that no officer interferes with the process or attempts to frustrate the establishment of the truth. President Tinubu extended his condolences to the families of the deceased and prayed for the repose of their souls. He also appealed for calm among the families and communities affected by the tragedy, assuring them that the Federal Government would pursue the truth and take appropriate action based on credible evidence. “We must never allow the pursuit of one form of illegality to create another. The government must enforce the law firmly, but it must also obey the law. The sanctity of human life is non-negotiable,” he said. STATEHOUSE PRESS RELEASE PRESIDENT TINUBU MOVES DIGITAL FREE ZONES INITIATIVE TO IMPLEMENTATION, TARGETS MORE GLOBAL JOBS & INVESTMENT FOR NIGERIANS President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has moved Nigeria’s Digital Free Zones initiative to its next phase, as the Renewed Hope administration seeks to make it easier for Nigerian technology and service companies to raise global capital, employ Nigerians and build for international markets without moving their businesses and intellectual property abroad. The President said the initiative will also create opportunities for more young Nigerians to work for global companies from Nigeria and expand the domestic ecosystem of engineers, developers, designers, lawyers, accountants and other professionals who provide services to growing digital businesses. “Nigeria has the talent, enterprise and ambition to build companies that can compete anywhere in the world. Our responsibility as a government is to ensure that Nigerians do not have to leave Nigeria or rely on other jurisdictions to realise that potential,” President Tinubu said. He said the government wants more of the economic value created by Nigerian talent to remain in the country through jobs, investment, professional services, intellectual property and growing Nigerian businesses. President Tinubu has consequently directed the Minister of Trade and Investment, Dr Jumoke Oduwole, in her capacity as Vice-Chairman and Implementation Coordinator of the Presidential Steering Committee on Digital Free Zones, to work with the Itana Innovation project and the Committee to develop the roadmap for the full launch of the initiative within 180 days. The President established and chairs the Presidential Steering Committee on Digital Free Zones as part of efforts to modernise Nigeria’s free zone framework, created more than three decades ago, for the requirements of the digital economy. “For too long, some of our most promising young entrepreneurs have felt compelled to establish their companies and intellectual property abroad to access global capital and markets. I do not accept that this must remain the case. “I want the next generation of African technology, finance and service companies to be built, headquartered and scaled to the world from Nigerian soil,” the President said. The initiative is already taking shape with Itana, Nigeria’s first Digital Free Zone, now licensed by the Nigeria Export Processing Zones Authority (NEPZA) and providing a platform for global and pan-African digital and service businesses to establish and operate from Nigeria. The Africa Finance Corporation is backing the $500 million Itana Innovation project at Alaro City, Lagos. The project will combine an enabling policy environment with an innovation campus, access to capital and ecosystem services designed to help African startups build at scale and retain more of the value they create on the continent. President Tinubu said the administration’s ambition extends beyond developing technology parks. “We want African companies to be incorporated in Nigeria, financed here and governed from here, while serving markets across Africa and the world. “I want a young Nigerian in Kano, Enugu, Warri, Minna, Maiduguri or Ibadan to be able to work for a global company without leaving home, and I want our founders to raise capital globally while their companies and intellectual property remain in Nigeria. “When these businesses grow here, they employ Nigerians, use Nigerian professional services and retain more of the value they create in our economy,” he said. The Presidential Steering Committee will continue its work across regulation, taxation, banking, immigration, arbitration and digitisation of government processes within Nigeria’s free zones. President Tinubu said the initiative will also position Nigeria to take advantage of the rapid expansion of Africa’s digital economy and growth of digitally enabled trade under the African Continental Free Trade Area.
