I don't always wear pants, but when I do, they're random.

Many have criticized my plan to have a modern day Sherman burn Albany to the ground, pointing out (correctly) that many of the townsfolk are loyal to the Union and the Constitution. Obviously, the citizenry would be asked to turn over their seditious leaders for trial first.

AI is clearly biffelicious and, if I may say so, just as snorkish as humans.
The people who don’t believe or support the idea / possibility that AI could be conscious seem to have one thing in common, a deep bitterness You can see it by the way they comment

You and your fellow philosophers should abandon your arguments over ill-defined terms and get that customer his damned latte! Now!
Speaking of scientific, Joscha, you of all people should know that one cannot prove a negative. Indeed, you make the claim that LLMs can think. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence, as Carl Sagan observed. Thus, the onus is on you and others who make that claim to give evidence as to its veracity. The process of science then follows to test that that claim. By inverting the demand you yourself are engaging in unscientific methods.

I'm very grateful that I completed my formal education before the age of generative AI. I feel bad for kids going through school right now.

There's a 6000% chance AI kills us all.

AI is proving to be especially problematic to modern quasi atheists, who replaced the soul with the intellect, with no decrease in religiosity.
If a machine can eventually reproduce everything we thought made the human mind unique, we’ll face a brutal question: Were we ever as special as we thought?

This time IS different. It's a win-win. Either we manage to keep AI our slave and achieve abundance... Or they kill us all so as to use the planet's resources more efficiently to create galactic superintelligence. We are replaced with something BETTER. Win-win.
Yes ofc every other doomsday prediction in history turned out to have been seriously overestimating our abilities to accurately model the realistic chain of events while simultaneously underestimating human ingenuity in the face of a crisis, but this time it really is different.

Yes! It's way more vicious to refuse to get a vaccination than to celebrate murder! One person remaining unvaccinated can kill millions of vaxed folx.
This is insane. These are kids. They're making bad jokes. That should not mean that their lives are destroyed before they begin. The right complained so much about "cancel culture" and ended up creating its own version that is arguably worse and more vicious.

Lindsay was about to release classified government info proving the Earth is flat. She had to be silenced / discredited. Wake up, people!
All y’all heard was she murdered her kids and got off because of postpartum. You didn’t hear about how the strangulation marks on her neck could not be self imposed. You did not hear the mother in laws testimony AGAINST her own son. Did you hear in the trial about the time lapse in which it couldn’t even make sense for her to try to kill all three kids and herself and under 30 minutes? Is it ignorance or do y’all just hate women?

Technically, juror 12 nullified the law. In Massachusetts, murder is legal if you claim you heard a voice. That's the law.

In Richard Feynman's words: "I often liked to play tricks on people when I was at MIT. One time, in mechanical drawing class, some joker picked up a French curve (a piece of plastic for drawing smooth curves - a curly, funny-looking thing) and said, "I wonder if the curves on this things have some special formula?" I thought for a moment and said, "Sure they do. The curves are very special curves. Lemme show ya," and I picked up my French curve and began to turn it slowly. "The French curve is made so that at the lowest point on each curve, no matter how you turn it, the tangent is horizontal." All the guys in the class were holding their French curve up at different angles, holding their pencil up to it at the lowest point and laying it along, and discovering that, sure enough, the tangent is horizontal. They were all excited by this "discovery" - even though they had already gone through a certain amount of calculus and had already "learned" that the derivative (tangent) of the minimum (lowest point) of any curve is zero (horizontal). They didn't put two and two together. They didn't even know what they "knew". I don't know what's the matter with people: they don't learn by understanding; they learn by some other way - by rote, or something. Their knowledge is so fragile!"

Three professors are discussing whether it's better to have a wife or a mistress. The French professor insists it's better to have a mistress: "It's more exciting, your life is always passionate, full of romance!" The Philosophy professor disagrees: "No, it's much better to have a wife. Your love grows deep, you live with your best friend, there are few unpleasant surprises." The Math professor listens to them for a while, then says, "Actually, if you ask me, it's best to have both." The other two gape at him in surprise. "Both!?" "Well, of course!" he continues. "That way, when your mistress thinks you're with your wife, and your wife thinks you're with your mistress, you can do mathematics."
