Jesus. Thank the sweet Lord those RTD spin-offs were aborted. Trump on the Moon. Men versus women. The clever versus the thick. Who said satire was dead? Apparently it’s alive and well and being explained to us very slowly by Kate Stewart.
RTD used to trust us to get the point he was making. Now he won’t leave us alone until we’ve signed something confirming we understand how clever he is and what a lovely person he must be. Strewth.

Even absurdity gets handled with total cinematic commitment: Polka-Dot Man seeing everyone as his mother, T.D.K. wielding detachable arms, and Ratcatcher 2 rallying the city’s rodents to turn the tide. James Gunn embraced R-rated comic book violence, giving every character no matter how obscure a standout moment to shine on screen.
